I stayed outside yesterday, doing some shoveling and clean up in the morning, walking in the afternoon, and sledding half the night away. I am so sore.

A 63 YO man should not be playing child games, but I love it so much. It was the Winter of 1996 since I had this much fun in the snow.

I wired brushed the rust off my sled's runners, polished the runners and waxed them. This ol' SPEEDAWAY is 40 YO itself, but it still would blast down the hill faster than any other sled there. What is it with kids these days that all they want are those unguidable plastic POS things? I bet I'll have some mommas and papas going to the hardware stores today to get a "real" sled for their kids! I sure had three or four lined up constantly last night to ride mine after they saw how fast it was. :icon_lol:

Going back again this evening and try to get sore where it ain't hurting this morning. :icon29:

We have plastic ones too, but my girls LOVE the old one of mine ...

Yea..at 54 It KILLS me to play real hard too, using mussles that have not flexed in years...AHHH The feel of a hot shower after is priceless...LOL

BTW Loved your pic...Ya Big Kid....LOL

I never cared much for a runner sled, especially in powder. Runners worked great on compacted roadway snow.
I was always a toboggan kinda guy! Great fun in powder!

Oh for sure Snuffy, the course is about a quarter of a mile long before flattening out. It was packed with a weighted drum roller pullled by a four-wheeler. After a dozen or so folks ride down in Tupperware and about six or seven trips down on the runner sled of mine, it was ripe. Last night, it got real nice, got real cold and slick. :applause:

Just got back from going this morning with both of my boys. Had to go while it was still real cold. It's above freezing now and melting. Don't want to ride the hill and destroy what we have. They are calling for a small chance of freezing rain this evening, so that's one reason I went this morning. The youngest boy did not go last night. he had a blast once we got him over his fear of the hill. First time he had ever ridden a sled on anything worthy of being called a hill. First time for the eldest last night. He was intimidated at first too, but after a couple of kids younger than him (one a girl) took the sled down, he had a go and it was go from then on.

The hill is great for a toboggan, fast, but a bit bumpy for a runner sled. We runner guys like "speed" and a good smooth track down a real steep hill is our calling. No doubt about it, my sled was the fastest thing out there last night or this morning. I guess there was two dozen of us rednecks and their kindred out there last night, only about a dozen, mostly teens, out this morning.

I had a good time at each venue and did seven trips down this morning and God knows how many last night. Had beer last night and the wife to drive! :ernae:
