Too much of a good thing

As I wade into the realm of AI I have encountered a problem. At KSEA, for example, there were multitudes of AI melding through and/or avoiding one another. Someone at the WOAI website thought the problem was the afcad so I just took it out of the addon scenery and it actually got comically worse. A dozen AC landed over a mile away (roughly where the ILS starts?) from the field then taxied on in directly under another dozen stacked on final tighter than the Blue Angels. What the hey? What other file is controlling this circus? The AC are almost certainly from the WOAI packages I've been putting in. I searched for and came up empty for any other file with KSEA in it. I'm now turning off any scenery that might be connected, plus I'm going back to WOAI for more answers.:isadizzy:

Just a thought - is your Seattle the stock airport, or a modified/payware version? I had problems in my retro FS9 install, which uses Calclassic airports; at Seattle some flights were using the runway correctly, but some (and the default flight) were still trying to use the longer default runway (probably because of the ILS, as you identified). In the end I had to disable the 'stock' BGL to get things working properly.

I'm using default scenery with an addon KSEA afcad file. Can't remember where I got it, probably FlightSim or Avsim.

It uses one runway for approaches and the other for departures. Even though I've got a ton of ai flying in and out it all works quite smoothly.

I've got default traffic (with ai aardvark models replacing the MS ones), CalClassic propliners and early jetliners, plus some individual airlines like American, Continental, Delta, United, and Pan Am to name a few.

In the first few minutes after loading a flight it looks a little like a jailbreak, but once things calm down a bit it keeps up a nice steady pace of traffic.

Stock airport with an afcad, as you said from somewhere. Seriously? On loading things can be a pigpile then sort out? Hmm, I'll see if that's the case, I didn't wait to see what happened after the air raid. Does this have anything to do with an ai pulling to a stop for no reason and letting things pile up behind it? An invisible obstruction?

I think that not all afcads are created equal. I'd send you the one I'm using if I knew how.

When I load a flight at Seatac I get about twenty ai planes all starting to taxi at once. They all seem to find their way to the runway OK. Then they line up for departure. Once the initial rush leaves things calm down quite a bit.

Yep, I just read that over on WOAI. FS has to choke down a ton of AC if I start at a big airport but should calm down, as you say, after a time. It's still amusing to watch 20 or 30 planes diving for the threshhold, now that I am reasonably sure it is just a passing event.
