Hey all,
I have been meaning to write this for a couple of months now and keep putting it off. This is a list of my fave Apps I have found on iTunes for my iPhone. If you have iPhone, you might enjoy these. If you have iPod Touch, you will not have external sound (without earplugs). (With iPhone 3Gs, you have improved external sound speakers (located in the bottom of the unit) and with the S model, they are quite loud, so you have a sort of walkman unit as well, great for speaker phone conversations, etc. My iPod didnt have that).
Ok... I'll seperate these into groups; Business, Fun, Games. THESE ARE NOT IN ORDER OF BEST TO LEAST... Four stars is best and 1 star is least.
BUSINESS:
Awesome Note; The most coolest notes program on Earth. I have bought this for friends and family. You have to see it to believe it. ****
SketchBook by Adobe (I think). An affordable drawing program with many tools, similar to PhotoShop by Adobe. ***
My Desk; Very cool little organizer program. Has a desk, a notes program, music, fun gadgets, and you can move things around on your desk. At night, the light illuminates the desk, replicating night time. ****
Perfectly Clear; Photo Editing Software. Great for brightening up photos and adding effects to them. Sort of like Photo Shop right in your i-Device. ****
WorkLog. If you do odd jobs for people in which you will be paid, (pool work, laying tile, doing a website, creating a texture, etc, etc), then you can use this to log your time. *** (I never use it lately but if I need it, its there).
FUN:
Holy Bible. This is the one with the brown icon. Awesome for catching scripture anywhere. Its web-based, but you can now download parts that you like so if you are remote and without WiFi, you can have it onhand. ****
aSleep; cool thing for when you have trouble sleeping, you can run this with timer and select a sound that makes you sleep, like the surf of the sea, underwater (u-boot fans will like that), rain, rain with thunder, etc. There are several out, but this is my fave one. ****
NightStand; A digital clock. This features several versions of clocks from the early digital era, including the old flip numbers, lol.. Has an alarm (2 I think), and various alarm settings, and works vertical as well as horizontal. Stays on all night instead of turning off (sleep mode disabled). Great for road trips when staying at motels). ****
DHD Stargate Dialer Device. Crazy thing. Based off of the game version, but this actually dials your phone. Has all the Stargate ring sounds and a wormhole appears when your phone calls, then it goes into iPhone / phone mode. *** (A must have for SG1 fans)
Solar Monitor; Speechless.. (almost). This incredible program looks like its from Star Trek, but its totally real. Its all the various readouts of our Sun. You can find all these screens and data on it (and there are many, and expandable) on things like solar flares, storms, UV rates, solar weather reports, and on and on and on... Scary how much this has on the Sun. Makes you wonder what we will have for other planets in the future. *****
Mars Globe; Fun and pretty amazing Mars map device, with detailed versions of maps, naming labels, click points, history locations, etc. *** (Very well done, something like GoogleEarth, but of Mars).
FlashLight; Great for when you need a flashlight. The iPhone/iPod screen with LED is quite bright. This make the entire screen white, and is optionally set for blue, green, red, etc. **** (A must have for emergencies).
Big Oven; Tons of recipes. Great for when you are in the kitchen cooking and decide to make something different. Awesome for remembering what to put into what. Pictures as well. Web based App. ****
W&G; This is the Wallace and Grommit App Comic Book Series. Hilarious and fun. Quiet reading so you wont wake your loved one when reading these. Hilarious. ***
GAMES:
AERA; This is one dang, awesome, cool, stylish, well done flight sim. Its fictional, based on elaborate 'what-if' planes that look like GeeBee racers with biplane configurations, etc. This has everything including fly modes, fighter modes, air-school, config settings, scenery, beautiful skies and terrain, hangers, you name it. Incredible game. ******** (simmers 'must' have).
Sky Racer; Sim game, planes. A nice little sim where you fly the plane through a gambit of just fly around. The Cessna works great and its fun for when you are stuck somewhere and there is nothing to do. ***
SuDuKo Free; Fun and makes you think. Very complex little game. ****
Word Search Free; Again, fun, complex, makes you use your mind. **** (If the lines are long checking out at Walmart, this is when its used, as well as sleepless nights).
Talking Carl; This is designed to make you laugh and laugh hard, hysterically. You talk into the mic and this guy thing (red moving animated square guy called Carl) babbles what you say in a funny helium like voice. He is very well done and it freaks the animals out, as well as friends and family. After a few days, it kind of wears off, but those few days are spent laughing. You have to check it out for the price. ****
DHD Stargate Game. You are in charge of the Stargate. You must seal off the Iris if enemies try to get in. Care as you might cause Thor to Splat on the security Iris.. ***
TriCorder; This is AWESOME, lolol... If you are a trekkie, and you love ST TNG (next generation) and you like those little tricorders, this converts your iPhone/iPod into one, lol.. Super high detail gadgetry. Very well done. Has many effects, and tons of layered menu's. **** (Note, if normal people find this on your iPhone, they will know too much about you.. Risky).
Flight Control; Brilliant air traffic control game. Really gets crazy after a while.
Camera Software;
5.0 MPX; This is a mega-pixel program for your camera. I dont know if this is a 3Gs only program, but its awesome for taking high detail pictures. Note, it crashes my iPhone sometimes, so beware. Doesnt happen often, but simply hitting home turns off the App. Then restart and snap again. The entire screen is your 'take' button, and you have a timer and a retake with timer also, for those moments when you want to take pictures with you and a another person and on one is there to hold the camera. Set, it starts taking snaps, done... ****
CP Pro; This is a Camera with a Zoom interface. Its ok. ** (Nicely made App, but its not fitted with a zoom lens, so you arent really getting Zoom in the true sense.. Better with a high pixel App).
iTimerCam; Awesome. Has timers you can set for taking pictures. As some of you know, a still iPhone can take amazing pictures. So if you can prop your camera up, and hit the timer, you get crisp pictures. Also you can set it to take many at timed intervals, like a Photo Booth type program. Great for group shots.. (Reminds me, I need a tripod for this thing, lol).
NOTE: Please check if these are compatiable with your device. Some only work with iPhone. Some only work with iPhone 3Gs (S is the new one). So tripple check that. Dont buy one of these if it will not work on your unit.......!
Hardware;
There is this cool 'wave sound device' by Griffon that looks like an elaborate block of plexi, transparent, with a funnel wave chamber molded in it. It is basically a stand for your iPhone, you plug it in, charger insert for your power cord, and this thing allows the sound from your iPhone to travel through this wave amplifier and the sound is pretty nice. Sort of like BOSE speaker technology. $20.00 USD. **** (Looks cool on the nightstand as well. Better then my business card holder I was using, lol).
I broke down and got a windshield suctioncup mounting arm for my iPhone for in the car. I was tired of putting it on the console and it slides off between the seats on turns. Keeps it near the mirror, safe, and when you get calls, just hit the ansere button, speaker phone button, and you are good to go. Hands off car phone conversations. (Safe safe safe). Just dont stare at it, lol... (Think of it as like a GPS device, looks like one as well).
Thats it. I hope that shows some people some cool Apps they can use. I have a zillion others, but those are my faves.
Anyone else have some cool Apps to share their knowlege about?
Bill
