I know many of you are fans of Naval Aviation and shooting traps on the carrier.

Dale Snodgrass has just launched his website with a greenie board to track LSO scores using some custom carrier missions and interesting coding on the backend for the website.

Brandon (Aces mission designer) did a lot of the mission development work and he did a great job. These are much more realistic than the carrier practice mission we shipped in Acceleration. Dale's knowledge and his voice in the mission really helped it come alive.

They have some great prizes to give away to top scorers during recurring tournaments. I know I would like a ride in an F5! I also noticed there aren't very many pilots submitting scores yet, so you might have a good shot at winning something during this tournament period.

Check out the Topgun Simulations website even if you don't want to fly their missions. There's a lot of good content to check out.

During my 26 year career in the US Navy, I became the Highest Time F-14 driver ever with over 4,800 hours and 1,287 arrested carrier landings in the legendary Tomcat.

I think this guy should be able to give some helpfull pointers.:jump:
It is a shame that I don't have Acc. yet, but thanks for the heads up on the site. Very cool :applause:

I posted about this site earlier today, and have had a change of heart about things. I am going to at least give it a try. Gotta admit, it looks interesting.

It is kind of like a raffel based on skill for a ride in a jet.

Sure the more you try, the more it's going to cost you, but the ride I would think, would be priceless.

At the very least, I will use the free time. Then, based on how I do, I might purchase more time..........

UPDATE:

I have emailed back and forth now several times with one of the administrators of the Top Gun Simulations website. The scoring code of their competition is indeed Ray Bedard's creation, and is under license from him and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

And I am most definitely going to be attempting to make a decent score in the competition, but I sure need to practice! I don't have too much problems trapping on carriers, but maintaining course, altitude, and speed? That's another story...

But I will invite the Administrators of Top Gun Simulations to join SOH, and specifically this thread.

Glad to hear it Navychief, I'm very curious to see how pilots do at this challenge and how the program goes.

Well, I downloaded the missions, but haven't attempted scoring yet. Apparently, I'm not nearly as good as the Acceleration missions would have me believe. But the mission is good, a lot like the default carrier practice mission, but with better ATC and much tighter tolerances. Oh, and the LSO camera is sweet!

I downloaded the TGSexe and Day Trap mission, but I couldn't register the product. The exe ran and installed, and the 6 trap mission worked just fine, but whenever I try to register the program it tells me to connect to the internet, which I have been. Also, the instructions on the TGS wesite says there is a readme.txt in the exe program, but It's not there. I've got the EUL's, the the DLL's, and the EXE's in the program files, but no readme.

Anyone else have registering probs?

I haven't attempted the competition yet, but downloaded the files. If you email the admin of the site, they should reply fairly quick; leastwise by this evening.

Finally attempted my first competition mission on the site. Last night, I was ranked 13th. I know I won't make it in the final 10, most likely, but this is a lot of fun! Just being able to do six consecutive traps was an achievement for me, since it has been months since I did any carrier ops.
