I saw a Tornado IDS on the cover of a magazine today..........................

And I had the urge to fly a mission from "Tornado" By Trimark/Digital Intergration.

I tried to make a CFS2 version with my addon for the Tornado and Desert objects................

Anyway.........

I got it on sale in 1996 - 1997 ...........

Trimark went out of business shortly there after.......

However, Digital Intergration went on to have more sucess up into the late 1999 to early 2000's

Box Art was great for this.............the graphics however where 640x400......which was state of the art in the mid 1990's

Trimark mission plannng screen was excellent..............that was the meat and potato's of the game.................DI bought that mission planning code and used it in the rest of thier sim's

Great plane, but about time they thought about a replacement, taking into account it takes about 30 years these days to get them into service. There's a great freeware FS9 Tornado by IRIS, doubtful if it would port over though. Then how the heck would the ordinance swing with the wings anyway, would have to settle for cosmetic mdl ordinance and hide the goodstuff in the fuselage.

Never did have that one, I do remember 'Fighter Bomber' on the Spectrum though (it had a Tornado), one of my first 3D games, I think my first was Driller, or maybe Carrier Command, both great games in their time.

Jamie

PS. I've been looking sorrowfully at Janes Fleet Command on Amazon, used to have it, but it didn't work in XP, gave it to charity, now they charge £15 for it second hand, made me wonder if fans made it XP compatible. Another fav of mine.

Tornado ........CFS2

Just for nostalgia..........................and compare/contrast........

CFS2 Tornado stuff ................ getting old but could still be fun.

Get it at simviation or flightsim

However, no ground to air missle threats or real air to air comflicts like a true dedicated modern sim................

and........

in the Desert Storm campaign ..........the low level runs by the RAF
Tornados where the first to hit ground to air targets ..........and they took some nasty return fire in doing so............

I don't think in today's modern arena .........they would send aviators into such harms way.........

If you remember ..............downed Tornado RAF pilots where the first to be shown on Iraqi television.........so Hats of to the RAF

I-Magic ..........Interactive Magic

Digital Intergration................went on to be IMagic........Remember the "Eye" in "I"magic...........I enjoyed looking for that Logo at ......class.........CompUSA........boo hoo .....now defunct

Most notable ..........award winning sim's .....Apache and Hind.....they had the Tornado mission builder engine.

Only thing held those sims back where the graphic technology of the times.............................DirectX (microsoft) became the standard

CFS2 and Microsoft benefits from the Microsoft bulldozer of the late 1990's. Remember the ......I hate Microsoft days (remember Serra flight sims)................

We loved em......we hated em..........smaller flight sim companies kinda bit it trying to compete.

A-10 cuba was Activision.................same thing

I grew up just about 2 kilometers near the runway of the former Germany Naval, now Airforce Base Schleswig-Jagel.

In my first years on this planet, there were Navy Starfighters of MFG 1 above me.
But before I was 10, they changed to the Tornado, and even the Luftwaffe today (AG51) flys them, though they use the recce Version.

I can recon a Tornado miles against the wind just by its sound!

Here is my virtual personal history of planes very familiar to me:

One more run..........

I had to make one more run ......................

just to compare...................

and CFS2, although visually better..................CFS2 just doesnt have the right stuff for what was a dedicated modern Jet ground attack video game.......ground follow radar......air to ground radar............pickle on target......ripple count and spacing...............ground to air missle threats.....etc......

Plus, I am getting alot of flak from my relatives about ......what have you been doing???............ha........I am way past starting to agree.....

Here is some shots of my attempted european camo on the desert tornado IDS stuff..........its in the package

Anyway........I still have flashes of creative.......what was it like to fly that mission.......

and the awe of the late 1980's and mid 1990's and smart military tech........
