Torpedo question

Hello to all.Would any of you happen to know how to make a torpedo work on inland lakes. Is there something in the torps DP file for depth or some such??
Im working on a dambuster mission at the moment using both the Dambuster Lanc from Alphasim ,and the one that came with the add on ,and finding that both weapons explode on impact with the water.
They both work fine off the coast but over the mohne,BOOM.
Could it be a mesh problem maybe?
Cheers in advance:ernae:

Yo RC;

I may be wrong but;

To the best of my understanding: CFS2 only recognizes water at (and slightly below) sea level (zero feet altitude).

Therefore inland lakes would be above that height, and in reality are just flattened areas of dry land which are painted blue or green to resemble water; but retain the physical characteristics of land.

To test this:

1) Try landing an aircraft on the lake. Does it sink? - I bet it will sit on top of the water.

2) Try running a "shplane" (a player drivable ship) on your lake. I would expect it will not move because it's on dry land. - like spawning a ship on a runway

Let us know how you make out Bro....

Yo Dirty.
Good thinking ,but no cigar.I landed a Spitfire on the banks of the lake ,then drove her into the water and she sunk like a stone. So I tries a Sunderland and she landed spot on.Even tangos U boat will cruise around for a while but she runs aground in the turns:pop4:

Got me knackered why a torp wont work, but thats the thing with this sim.Ya find something new every time ya fly.

Hi R C,

I think it is some sort of Landclass/Waterclass issue.
I know the PHP Guys had this problem with the Harbor.

Wish I could help more,

I agree , it's the reason ,even if you have water in these lakes or harbors if these places are not assigned as waterclasses you will have these "crash" results because the game recognizes them as a land area.

Hmmm...

Jean, I'm relatively unschooled at the whole Landclass / Waterclass deal... how does one set the individual classifications ?

Hi SC
It's possible to edit ,with g2k or Ezlandclass ,a landclass or a waterclass bgl to make all these areas lake or harbor as real water giving to them a waterclass value for each area lod13 ,Ezlandclass work on a grid of 257 to 257 area lod13 etc...
"A Tool List, CFS2 Ground 2K?" thread, Simonu explain how to use Ez Landclass with cfs2
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=18265
there is also a list of the tools that help
LEC to have the coord of the Fs-Cfs grid map lod2 to lod 13

Thanks Jean Bomber.Im off to have a look at these. At the moment I,ve found that the Alphasim Lancaster will take out the target with a direct hit so im continuing with making the mission. All I need now is a Dam that will fit in with the land class in the right spot for the mohne..Im using an array of sub pens joined together at the moment.Any ideas????

Thanks crash.Im looking into how to make those changes ,but not being real smart in these things Im getting a head ache:isadizzy:.
The links that Jean bomber posted have been a good start so I will have a go at it on the weekend.I have D/Ld the tools. Now I just need to work out how to make it happen.

If any landclass gurus are out there????? HELP!!!!!!!

:ernae:

If you run into some roadblocks... I can help you after this weekend as I am finalizing PHP2.
:wavey:

Be great if you could have a look.I,ve never tried scenery of any kind before ,and am afraid i will leave it F.U.B.A.R. In all reality it would only be an area about a mile around the dam site that would need to be changed but even this mite take me while.

Yeah I know those targets well as I did some work in FS9 on those particular lakes.

I use the seaplane bases that SW07 made. You can takeoff and land on the lake just like you can on the ocean. It sure looks like it is way above sea level. Never used a torpedo up there, but now I just gotta find out if it will work!

The lake on Long Island is at 1110 ft elevation. I tried a torpedo run in a Catalina up there yesterday and both exploded on impact. I was at 110 kts and about 80 ft off the water. :salute:

dhasdell,

To stop a ship from crossing land, you have to have a gun on the ship.
You do this by adding a gunstation for a gun in the ships dp file. A .30 cal
will do fine. You can copy and paste from another ship or an aircraft if you like.

Thank you. I'll give it a try.
