am considering getting trackir.

the trackir4pro, comes with everything i need, if i am correct, including the headset.

was just wondering why there are posts about mounting the reflectors, and such. Do some ppl not like the headset they supply?

and, will assume while the trackclip may be nice, its not necessary.

any feedback will be appreciated.

TrackIR is basically a software disc, a headset mounted unit and a monitor mounted unit. You need your own headset, it's not supplied.

Once the software is loaded you clip the unit onto the left side of your headset and position the monitor unit on the top on the monitor (usually).

Then you set it up and configure it to your preffered settings.

Very basically that's it. It'll work with XP or Vista.

Hi Duck I just got mine a week ago and I use Clip Pro but only coz I don't like wearing hats. You see Clip pro is a nice little device but it has too be connected to usb port which is not too great IMO but still better then wearing a hat.

ok,,,I thout this thing pictured was the part that went on your head/hat or whatever....am i wrong?

(this comes with trackir4pro)

If not,,,what is it?

What you show is the thing that clips on the the bill of a hat. That comes with the regular Track IR. I prefer that to the pro clip (though admittedly I don't have the pro clip) because I would rather wear a hat than a headset. Also I do not want more wires attached to my head (the ground wire on the tin foil kipi is enough). I think it is a question of preference. The hat clip works fine for me. When flying online I just put the headset over the hat (gives me that rakish 50 mission crush). As an aside, I have a hat that has a piece of string/braid that is like a half hat band on a baseball cap. I just slid the hat clip under that and it is nicely secured and not problem at all.

thanks burningbeard,,,thats what i needed to hear.

The one in the sticky is IF you purchased around 2005, which was prior to the hatclip available today. Which really all you NEED.

The styrofoam discs, were to upgrade the 2005 Hatclip, to the performance levels of the hat clip you get with your NEW unit

If you already use headphones there's a clip that fits them, I personally don't see the need, if I used headphones, I would buy them
But I'm not gonna run out and buy headphones to stick my trackir on

If you're still confused. . .simple way to differentiate
$130 Buys all you NEED

$150 if you use headphones Now

Didn't someone say that they were able to get TrackIR to work by bouncing the beam off their shiny, bald head?

It was actually a cieling light in the another room, that bounced of his 'chrome dome' right into the camera unit mounted atop his monitor, botched up everything.

Or so I've been told, I wear a hat so it ain't me, besides . . I have hair on my head, 3 of'em actually. . :kilroy:

Gives me an idea to strap a baboons arse to my noggin. But then again I can save the time and money and trouble because I have the advantage of being bald.:wiggle:

Actually, the clip has a piggy back USB connector, so the screen part plugs into the piggy back, so only one USB is used still.

Also, thanks CS, glad to have been useful :D

All kidding aside, keep a trash contaner handy. For about the first week or so. And definately that first time, if it's not needed fine. But if it is needed, won't you feel like a total arse, as you ruin that keyboard:costumes:

Outlaw's description of how ton set up a "dead zone" so that your view doesn't jump with every twitch of your head or blink of an eye (a bit exaggerated, but not much) is the main thing to gain from my thread. He gave super tips on setup.

Now, if only they could get P3 out the door.
