Truesky in V5

jmig

SOH-CM-2025
I am embarrassed to ask this, but where is Truesky turned on and off in V5? I read in forums where someone will say he turned it off. Heck, I can't find any button or checkbox that say Truesky. I did a search in P3D.cfg and no Truesky.

I must be going senile.

Expect an FPS hit at this stage, not sure what the numbers were when I ran these test flights but given that it's still in beta things were not that smooth.
Late Autumn day with high settings and soft light, bone stock scenery, over Edwards AFB region.
However, the results are (IMHO) really spectacular.

In my experience the major hit is not in FPS but in Video memory usage. Combined with complex scenery and planes and Truesky at minimum resolution, the VRAM use is close to 3.4 GB which is the limit of my 970. Cards with more VRAM will not have an issue and can also increase the cloud texture resolution for results like the ones above by wombat.

I actually ran these on my hack system which I use for basic trials.
The Graphics are a single Geforce RTX 2080Ti 11G (on 'loan' from another build) and the rest is an i7 running box stock at 3GB on an MSI mobo a couple of years old with 32GB of RAM.
It will be repurposed with a couple of HOF 1080s in SLI eventually.
So I guess the apparent flickering might be linked to the prosaic underpinnings as the GPU has a stack of grunt, while the chip temperatures were consistently lowish.
Still impressed with a first trial run but.
:encouragement:

I do enjoy TrueSky and really FPS hasn't been a major issue on my PC. My issue is with TrueSky itself which looks fantastic as you're flying through or just above/below clouds: However, when looked upon from altitudes a few thousand above/below, you can clearly see the issues with it. Check the pictures.
