Tuvalu

I know Tuvalu is not a go-to destination for most, but Graham has put a lot of love and care into this one, and it looks simply fantastic!

Looking forward to its release!

Messing around with FS Commander to see where a person could fly into the Tuvalu from. Fiji is the closeset but wanted to tie a route into Papua New Guinea. Looks like a couple of stops into the Solomons from Rabaul then a 700 mile flight from there. The seven Islands that PIS used run NW/SE with the two extreme ends at around 260 miles apart. Most of them are around 60 miles from each other. Will make for some interesting flying. A person could spend a lot of time just flying around each Island, and that has Helicopter written all over it.

Yep, it is a lobor of love for this Pacific Islander.:wavey:

Atolls of Tuvalu was re-created in FSX for two fundamental reasons: to "capture" the history and current state of the atolls as we know it in our lifetime; and to replicate the splendor and essence of flying in the fourth smallest country in the world within FSX.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
The <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region><st1:place>Tuvalu</st1:place></st1:country-region> atolls have been a subject of international interests for quite a long time now, in fact since World War II. Apart from being used by American Forces (mainly Marines) during WWII as advance post for deterring Japanese attacks in the northern South Pacific in 1943, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Tuvalu</st1:place></st1:country-region> has been known in the scientific world as the most rapidly sinking country in the world. If the current sea-level rise prove accurate from various scientific experts, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Tuvalu</st1:place></st1:country-region> will be fully submerged within the next 50 years. Given that likely scenario, it is only appropriate that we digitize images and memories of the country through various mediums, including game genres such as our hobby for future generations to see. In the interest of full disclosure, we may not accurately capture the entire country of <st1:country-region><st1:place>Tuvalu</st1:place></st1:country-region> within FSX given our lackluster scenery development skills, but at least we can leave plenty to the imaginations of those interested in the product.

Speaking of digitizing, this article from USATODAY may interest those of you who may not know what or where Tuvalu is in the grand scheme of things.

How do you install this?? Don't know if win 7 64 is messing with me - Thought installing scenery was just a couple of clicks and no .bgl files show up when I try to add - I Know I'm missing something easy - Chris

Chris, I assume you bought the PNG Bush Flying package, which is not the same as Atolls of Tuvalu. The latter is slated for release this weekend. Please get in touch with me at toksawe@gmail.com to sort your problem out pronto.

Thanks for the HU Timber, I'm getting it now.

Really been looking forward to this one. Twin Otter is coming out of the hangar.

cheers,
steve :wavey:

I know this isn't for everyone, but to me it is fantastic. Never been to Tuvalu, but I've spent several years out in that area, flying a Twin Otter for a couple of them. It feels like you're there, from the Chinese stores, to the rusty hangars, piles of containers everywhere, and bumpy worn out runways. Really immersive. :medals:

Wonderful people live in this part of the world, very isolated, and so terribly at risk of seeing their homes and their country disappear under the rising sea levels of the Pacific Ocean.

Really great job, Wantok! :ernae: How about Samoa next?

I'm having no luck uploading screenshots tonight, sorry for that.

cheers,
steve :wavey:

Thanks for the kind words, Steve. When the dust settles, it would be a toss-up between Solomon Islands, Samoa, Fiji, and Micronesia. Or it could be somewhere other than South Pacific.... depends on the mood and info/pics I get (not necessarily in that order ..lol):wavey:

Thanks James and Pips. Your feedback (even preview comments) encourages me to continue "work" the South Pacific. It makes my time all the more worthwhile.:wavey:

The screenshots sold me. I just purchased both packages.

Thanks for the wonderful scenery

Both? What's the other one? I'm downloading Tuvalu as we speak... Looks great! It will make a perfect companion to the PNG package!

EDIT: Just figured it out. PNG is the other package! LOLOL

Yeph! :)

I never had it before. I also ordered the DVD of Orbx's FTX Australia. This $25.00 7 island package is starting to cost almost as much money as a plane ticket there. :icon_lol:
