This thread will be short.
This is limited to the ORIGINAL Alphasim Thunderstreak/Thunderflash package for FS9.
Its a fun aircraft to just climb in, light the tail, and bomb around.
All I've done is fill out the (original) gauges in the VC and tweak the contact points so the wheels look better on the ground. I've also tweaked the engine exhaust smoke effect so it looks better (to me). Your mileage may vary based on your rig and resolution, but these numbers should be in the ballpark.
Yeah, I know there are other updates out there for this plane, I just haven't tried them out.
Contact points-
The MDL files for the Thunderstreak and the Thunderflash seem to be slightly different but close.
The CPs I used for the Thunderstreak are (just copy and paste these lines over the old ones):
point.0 = 1, 18.634, 0.000, -6.78, 2000.000, 0, 0.770, 28.000, 0.134, 2.500, 0.750, 6.000, 4.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
point.1 = 1, -1, -10.2, -6.57, 2500, 1, 1.5, 0, 0.4, 2.5, 0.85, 5, 7, 2, 250, 4112.019
point.2 = 1, -1, 10.2, -6.57, 2500, 2, 1.5, 0, 0.4, 2.5, 0.85, 7, 5, 3, 250, 4112.019
Yeah, these contact points look like a hot mess but they work fine. Your tires should now sink slightly into the ground.
For the Thunderflash (RF-84F) its the same deal:
point.0 = 1, 18.634, 0.000, -6.7, 2000.000, 0, 0.770, 28.000, 0.134, 2.500, 0.750, 6.000, 4.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000
point.1 = 1, -1, -10.2, -6.45, 2500, 1, 1.5, 0, 0.4, 2.5, 0.85, 5, 7, 2, 250, 4112.019
point.2 = 1, -1, 10.2, -6.45, 2500, 2, 1.5, 0, 0.4, 2.5, 0.85, 7, 5, 3, 250, 4112.019
Note that the gear height is slightly different. I guess this was why Alpha split the planes into two separate folders.
For the exhaust smoke effects, use the following for both planes:
[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=0.0, -19, 0,fx_ALPHA_A6_smoke
I'm using the smoke effect from the (still payware) Virtavia A-6 Intruder but any medium to heavy smoke effect will look fine. You may also want to add an automatic "smoke switch" to your Panel.cfg files. We'll get into that next.
For the VC gauges, replace the [VCockpit00]section in the Panel.cfg file with the following:
[VCockpit00]
size_mm=1024,1024
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$vpanel
background_color=0,0,0
visible=0
gauge00=b29_altimeter, 419, 588, 110, 101
gauge01=jet_rpm1, 754, 495, 90, 80
gauge02=shack_attitude, 645, 498, 94, 85
gauge03=f100_airspeed, 427, 498, 94, 84
gauge04=a10a_fuelflow1, 754, 590, 90, 80
gauge05=alpha_vsi, 635, 590, 109, 97
gauge06=val3.flaps, 249, 661, 55, 44
gauge07=b29_gear, 116, 520, 102
gauge08=a4_turn_bank, 526, 585, 107, 94
gauge09=b29_gyro_compass, 310, 490, 104, 91
gauge10=alpha_spoiler_lamp, 603, 370, 20, 17
gauge11=hunter_mach, 315, 585, 92, 89
gauge12=b29_remote_compass, 533, 494, 96, 86
You're just using the same gauges from the 2D panel, so you should already have them installed.
To add the automatic smoke switch, add the following below the section you just changed:
[Vcockpit01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=32,32
visible=0
pixel_size=32,32
texture=$Fake
gauge00=AlphaSim!Alpha_exh_smoke, 1,1,1,1
...If it isn't already there. If you've install the normal 20-30 Alphasim aircraft, you should already have a subfolder in your main Gauges folder named AlphaSim.
The engine smoke should kick in at RPM levels above 85-90% and shut off when you back off the throttle. If it isn't working, post a reply and we'll figure it out.
If you need smoke effects, head over to Historic Jetliners Group. They have some really nice ones for the old jets.
