Uninstalling P3D v2.2

There is a "setup.exe and a Prepar3D.msi" I think in the installation folder once everything is unzipped. I tried using the setup.exe but ran into problem that cut it off about 75% into the installation. I ran the msi program and it installed completely with no problems.

Tried reinstalling as per your instructions, seems like there are still remnants of 2.2 installed. Dialog box tells me to go to Add Remove Programs to uninstall 2.2. Uninstall was not successful as another dialog box came up and told me there was a network error. Did a search of drive D and could not find any data referring to v2.2. I'm lost.
I know that even with a complete uninstall, if you were to go to the registry, you'd find that there are a lot of entries still remaining. It's possible that the installer is still finding those and assuming that it's still installed.
Something just came to mind. What you just said jogged my memory. There is a hidden folder on the C; drive (at least it was on my puter) that contains the remnants of the installation of the version you thought you uninstalled. . .I'd almost bet that's what it sees. I had the same problem until someone here pointed that folder out to me. I'll look back at my threads and see if I can find the culprit.

You should also check to make sure that the newer version doesn't exist in the Windows package cache (I'm betting it does). Assuming your system drive is c:, you'll find a bunch of cryptically named folders in c:\ProgramData\Package Cache. On my system, there are two such folders containing P3Dv2 files ... one for 2.0 and the other for 2.1. You'll probably need to delete the one on your system that contains the 2.1 installation files.

The way I uninstalled 2.2 was to go into the Control Panel/Programs and Features and clicked on the P3D icon and chose uninstall. Apparently this removes P3D V2.2 from the Registry. I then ran the P3D V2.2 installer and when the dialogue box came up I chose uninstall. Then I went to my FS drive and moved any folders to another partition so I could save some aircraft then ran the P3D V2.3 installer and all went well.

Control Panel/Programs /uninstall prepar3d...no problems at all, no fuss...2.3 installed and flying like a whisper

Problems with the uninstall program happen when something is accidently deleted or changed in such a way that the uninstaller doesn't recognize it. Then the uninstaller leaves a LOT of stuff behind, and one or more of these items are looked at by the installing package, and causes the errors. If it hasn't happened to you, you have no idea the headaches it causes. 
I very strongly urge everyone to actually heed Lockheed-Martin's insistence on using their built in "Uninstaller" and forget all about any other method, including the Control Panel's function.
There is a lot of "stuff" that goes on via their custom "uninstaller" that other methods know nothing about at all...
...I seriously doubt L-M would have invested the time to write their own "uninstaller" if the usual "Control Panel" method would have worked, just as I write custom "uninstallers" for those installers I write for aircraft releases.
