Hi folks,

This is what I get when trying to launch a flight.

unlimitedpilots.xml processing error

Is there a quick medecin? Please don't tell me that I have to reinstall the game because getting this far took me 3-4 hours due to all kinds of troubles on the way. My email is arok84@hotmail.com if it is as easy as just sending the file.

There is a possiblity it might be repairable, without anything too drastic.

OFF reacts unfavorabley to more than 12 pilots, at any one time

Puctuation marks or other little humanizing titles in a pilots name are frowned upon
ie ...
Bob Wilson Jr - Lose the ( Jr )

Fred Freak'er - Lose the ( 'er )

Try those first, see if it cures the problem

Hi, Ulerich; I had the same problem. It seems so, that it's because of the game being in English language. And even though your Pilot Dossier may be in Swedish (cause it's displayed in your Windows language), you cannot use any letters, that are not on English keyboards.
My first pilot's names where "Jürgen" or "Günther", and it didn't work; I had to write "Juergen" and "Guenther". Understood? So, go to "Workshop" and erase all pilots, and then choose a name like "Gustav Wasa" - that's the same writing as in English. Hope, this will help; Cheers; Olham

ah.. that might be it, I used my own last name, "Nyström" and thought it was nice that the program apeared to accept it. I'll try old Gustav and post back later. Danke schön

Feldwebel Erich Nystroem could not fly either. It simply says "mission failed to load" and after there is another message saying that a latitude is invalid. I remember reading somewhere that ' * . , can be troublesome if the computer dosen't think in english. Which leaves me little choise but to change my language settings and install it all over again?

How to fake Campaigns

Hi again, Ulerich. First: your "unlimitedpilots.xml" problem is now gone, I hope.
Second: on German (and maybe also on Swedish) Windows, the Campaigns do not work. But I fly "fake Campaigns". I enlist a pilot. Then I go to "Workshop", there you can choose for the Pilot' log, report all flights (not only Campaigns). Then fly a "Quick mission". After landing (or even in mid-air) I press "escape" and click on "End flight", then "escape" again, and click on "Back to Officer's mess" (or so), in the menue appearing on the right. Then you do the next "Quick mission" and so on. That way, my pilot has now survived 9 sorties; having 28 claims (16 confirmed victories); and even an "Iron Cross", in his log.
So, try all this, and tell us, if it worked (hope, it will - good luck !) Cheers; Olham

Don't be too quick to go through a reinstall

Just as important as ENGLISH, is the Regional Settings, it Must be USA, UK, South Africa

The Guys from OZ had that a no-go with campaigns, the Regional Settings cured it

Hi, Gimpy Not being an "ace on Windows": can these regional settings be changed just for the time playing, and reset after? Or may I get the PC or Windows confused that way?

To be honest 'don't know'. If they had written OFF in Germany, I suppose I'd know by now. But they didn't, so I don't. :isadizzy:

Theoretically, there should be no problem if you shut down and boot-up each time

Thanks anyway, Gimpy; great wingmen 'round here; it's fun to visit the forum. About that problem, I'll see, if I can find a definite statement by an expert on Windows, and then post it. Cheers; Olham

I got all those trouble on my first install

I'm running a french version of WinXP and what I have to do before I run the game is like gimpy said, in control panel, regional settings, change the standard for english-US, change the location to USA and add an english keyboard input. The only difference you will notice is the way dates, numbers and decimal are displayed. I never change it after, except for the keyboard input setting, I use the ALT+SHIFT shortcut to switch from french to english and back again.

Once the unlimitedpilot file are corrupted you will lost all your pilots and campaign result but you don't need to reinstall. There's a procedure to follow but I'll need to look for it. Maybe somebody else would take over. I think there's an option in the workshop to clean the pilots files but I'll need to check it too...

It works !

"Ulerich", "GimpyGuy" & "ToBeOrNot" - it works! I changed settings to English (USA), and I could start a Campaign (at last!) I'm soooo happy! If it caused any problems, I will find out when rebooting tomorrow. But I don't think so, as I have only started, played and finished the game. Geee - I did my first "real front patrol" and even shot down 1 Nieuport. Thank you, boys! Olham

thanks for the aid fellows and congrats olham. It is alot of language issues now, i just returned from a german class and was eager to see if the regional settings etc would do it, it did not. It seems like no one really knows the exact reason behind this "failed to load mission" thingy, in short, pol's faq says reinstall, not very encouraging.

Before reinstall

Before you reinstall, you could try this: go to "workshop", and click "manual install" at the right; then activate a pilot and try to start a Campaign. Here, that worked (don't know, if I could fly a "mission" - but "Campaign", yes!)
Good night. Olham

Hey: Oldham the region trick, along with some others is in the STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats #16 Video Performance

Also avoid the missions tab, Quick Combat, and Campaign Period.

If you want missions, D/L from SOH, and install as per #24

wohoo..im flying. I reinstalled everything with all windows settings changed to US. Only problem is a circle of bad graphics, rainbows all colours, around the plane at some distance, I guess that can be solved somehow. Right now im too tired, thanks to all.

It all works now !

Thanks again, "ToBeOrNot", and especially "Gimpyguy" - your advices did it. Since you said, Ph2 is running even smoother with higher resolution, I tried it, and it works ! I can fly Campaigns, and even that "plane explodes at scramble start"-problem is gone ! I'm soooo happy, guys - Ph2 is the best "real" action I've seen so far. After some flights, I must dry my hands and have a break !
Pol, Makai, OvS and all the other team members - you have built something fantastic! I hardly dare to imagine, how infernal P3 will be...
Must finish now - Scramble!...
