Retired SOH Admin
Some recent events in my life have forced me to take a serious look at the direction and quality of my life. And what I saw was not good. As a result, I am taking steps to bring the direction and quality of my life into being what I want it to be. I am working toward kicking the smoking habit (was doing really well until yesterday morning.....a major upheaval sent me back to my tried and tested emotional crutch...but I am already back on the road to being tobacco free). I have cut out pop/soda from my diet for the most part....I have had 2 in the last week and a half compared to 3 to 4 cans a day. Chips....gone. Cookies and other junk foods....working on that but have greatly reduced my intake of junk empty calories. More walking, more salads and veggies, a lot less milk and a lot more water. After over 3 years of not working (taking care of Deb as she recovered from her brain surgery in August 2008), I have put in 20 applications in less than 24 hours....a man simply can't feel right about himself if he is not working...at least that the way I am. Spending a LOT LESS time on the computer....I fire it up, check e-mails, check SOH, then shut it back down....haven't even fired up a flight sim in 3 weeks or more. Total computer time is down to about 20 minutes a day instead of 6 to 10 hours a day.

To serve as a visual reminder of my efforts to improve my life, I have designed a tattoo that I will get as soon as I have the free funds to have it done. Three Cherry Blossoms......not the solid pink Japanese ones...but more like the white American cherry blossoms...with a bit of pink along the edges (I am not afraid of the color pink). These three blossoms represent Rebirth, Regrowth and Renewal.

The text will not be part of the tattoo, nor will the tan-ish back ground color. This tattoo will go high on my right arm...up on the ball of my shoulder.....not visible when I am wearing a short sleeved shirt....but will be visible each and every time I look at my self in the mirror after showering.

You already have tattoos? If not, think long and hard about getting one.

Nope...no tattoos. This will be my first. I have thought about getting a tattoo for some time, but have never had an image that had enough meaning to me to become a permanent addition to my complexion. This tattoo is deeply personal and will be for me alone...few people will ever see it. I will not be adding tattoos for the sake of having tattoos....that is not my style. My brother has been egging me on for a while to get some tats....he is sleeved out, has a full back piece, and is currently working on having his legs covered in tats...all Native American imagery.....but I am not of that inclination. This tattoo is a personal image, a daily reminder to continue striving for a better me.

You might have to rethink your colours Tim as I believe white is an extremely difficult (if not impossible) colour to get on a tattoo.

Tako

That's the same thing my brother said. He is one of the lucky ones whose skin will take and hold white ink. I will leave the white out...just black outlines, the black stamens and the pink shading at the petal tips. The while will just be my skin....and since I wear t-shirts, the skin on the ball of my shoulder is as close to white as it can be given my half Injun ancestory.

Tim - Tatoos are agreat way to make a personal statement or, as in your case, an affirmation of belief and change. I have one on my right forearm that does just that. I have never felt the need to either hide or explain it (or why I got it) and it has been there for forty years. You go for it, y'hear!

tattoo's are kinda an interesting thing... i found it quite painless when i got mine and i had it on a less fleshy area... my shoulder blade... but they are kinda more-ish my latest was a spartan helmet facing my spine, reason for this being despite me being quite cool calm and relaxed look inside and you'll find the warrior within (hence why he's looking inwards), my current design i'm toying with compliments that... Spartan shield and Crossed Dorys behind, signifies my defenses but also the potential aggression behind the defense...

back to yours, black shading instead of colour would be best i feel, white is a dicey one... can be done but as you say some peoples skintone doesn't take to it, as i say it should be relatively pain free, i spent 6 hours getting mine done in 1 day and repeatedly asked "are you doing any work back there or are ya just gonna keep scratching me?" in fact thats kinda what it feels like, or felt like to me y'know that warm sensation when ya scratch a bit much? :icon_lol:

good luck buddy, just remember it can be a slippery slope gettin' inked... just try to enjoy it that's all i can say really, no advising against or for from me, you're old enough to make yer own decisions.... at least one hopes.... :icon_lol:

OBIO I walk two miles a day after work and I can report to you that my personal mood is much improved compared to sitting in a chair watching a screen.

Good idea Obio, kind of running up your colours every morning :USA-flag: before entering the battle of daily life!

It is easy to loose sight of ideals and if this visual affirmation reminds you of it, go for it!

OBIO- you are getting a tattoo for all of the right reasons...personal ones. Designer tattoos are for "wanna be's".

I have a couple myself, high on the shoulder, because I got more for me than for display. They represent things are personal to me. As a matter of fact at 39 yrs old I am going to get one more, which my older son is going to also get the same one. The tattoo was designed by my younger son who may (or may not) get it when he is an adult....emphasis on "when he's an adult".

That tattoo would look good in black and gray. If you add just a little bit of shading on the flower in another color it will stand out nicely.

Also, congrats on the life changes. "GoodOnYa"!!! I quit smoking 4 years ago, best decision I ever made.

Obio - how smart of you to recognize what you need to do to get your life into a comfortable balance for yourself. So few people can do that, or even know where to start. You deserve (and are receiving) respect and admiration for your efforts. . . and a little envy when you succeed !!

:salute:

I agree with this. My entire outlook is better when I'm on my excercise regimen. Now, even when I'm watching television or listening to music, I get on my mini-stepper.

I quit the fast food and sugar soda thing about 2 years ago. My metabolism took over, now I look like an extra from Shindler's List:isadizzy: But my kind of gals love it. As for tats, mine are personally designed for my own reasons. After all, they're FOREVER. Most reflect my love of history, especially ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. There are a couple there just because. Got my first 25 some years ago, they can be addictive:icon_lol: Pics show the arm tats, more on left leg and wrists. The hieroglyphs read "I create" , "I repair" , "I see" View attachment 62188 One rule about tats I have is no copyrighted stuff, like show charactors, music bands, etc. Most people I know who get that stuff usually regret it. Unless they have a real personal connection to such things. View attachment 62189

All the luck in the world to you

I wish you all the luck in the world to you my friend,I have severe anixity and depression and meds don't seem to work.I have to beat this thing or die trying cause I can't live this way for the rest of my life.
I'am using you as inspiration to turn my life around. All the best and may God be with you.

The closest I ever got to deciding what tattoo I might get would have been a drawing of my guitar accompanied with a phrase in Latin that I understand was on most if not all of J.S.Bach's manuscripts- 'Soli Deo Gloria', which I'm told means something like 'To the glory of God alone'. I've never done it, though, because whatever I do get inked is gonna be there for the long haul- my lady's niece is getting some tats removed with a laser, and it's a lengthy, painful, process.

Otherwise, best of luck with the life-change- to quote a Bob Dylan lyric, "he not busy being born is busy dying"

Wow! I just got a call for an interview for a portrait retouch position with a national church directory business. Monday morning, 10:30. The job is in another town...maybe a 20 minute drive down the highway....but the starting pay is more than enough to make the gas expense worth while. About 37 miles round trip....2 gallons of gas per day at the outside. 10 gallons per week, 40 to 50 bucks.

Hope it comes through for you OBIO. I sure you'll do a fine job if hired.....<label for="rb_iconid_14">
