Any chance of you uploading the MiG here at SOH, I have problems getting anything out of avsim.

I didn't see it at Avsim, maybe it's not out of the hands of the admins yet.... Of all the cold war jets out there, I like all of the versions of the MiG-21 Fishbed the best. The Su-11 "Fishpot" is also a strong contender.

Will have to check these out...I have found myself flying a lot of Russian mil jets lately.

Flusirainer,
Just got to fly your Beta MiG-21MF.
WOW :applause: and I'll say it again...WOW :applause:
Granted I haven't been able to land it but that's due to my ham-fisted flying style. :kilroy:
Definitely a keeper!
Thank you very much! :ernae:

Landing instructions:

- Reduce speed timely (20 km from the runway about 450 - 500 km/h; Throttle_Lever about 40 - 45% )

-flaps position 1

-15 km from the runway gear down & trim nose up 70% (begin final approach, sinking; Throttle_Lever about 40%; height about 600 m above Rynway )

- 400 - 450 km/h flaps position 2

- 380 km/h flaps position 3 = "SPS" (bleed air for the flap)

- Maintain Speed at 320 to 340 km/h (Throttle_Lever about 45%)

- After touchdown, flaps position 4 = drag chute (Warning, strong braking action)

There's something about the look of the Cold War Era Russian Jets. They all have a sinister, all business appearance.

Just took the MiG-21MF for a short hop. I found the key to a successful landing is a long gradual approach. Full flaps deploys the drag chute and the jet really slows down once you are back on 'terra-firma'. Added the advanced flight dynamics and the MiG used a little more fuel... especially when I stood on the throttle and lit the reheat. Have to learn to keep my fist out of it more often, especially if I want to get to where I'm going.:isadizzy:

Excellent visual model, very nice that there isn't too much shine. The attention to detail is excellent.

Thanks for your superb MiG-21MF, Rainer. There's no such thing as too many MiG-21's in my hangars. :salute:

Every sim picture I see of Russian jets taking off seem to have afterburners flaring away. I seem to remember some years back an article which stated that it was not common practice for Russian pilots to use AB on take-off, something about the fuel consumption and their jets not being particularly efficient in fuel usage.
Can any experts on the subject confirm this. I don't remember where I got the info.
