Richard Eikeland built this wonderful CFS3 mission editor
A Must Have for anyone building missions and facility files..
In the CFS3 other add-ons section

PLEASE NOTE I have included a text file sent in 2003 by Martin Wright to Richard Eikeland, while Richard was still designing the Mission and Facility Editor.
There were a few changes made to the Microsoft original Mission Builder SDK (the MS Word document that describes how to write missions, spawn table files and spawn xml files). Largely adding a few more options for pick types and things like that. You will know that originally MS did not have a level_bomber picktype, and so the first Mission SDK did not have that as an option for units in a bomber formation in a spawn file or mission file. All that stuff is explained in this text.
Things like the way to group fighters on an airbase facility file, and how to use the flags parameter so that spawns can be referenced in a facility file, are included in this text.
Many Thanks to David and Clive for this Gift to be shared

Good stuff Owen, thanks. It's not easy to use at first look as there's no instructions but is fairly simple once you get to grips with it.

The mission editor is useful for post-editing whats been done in the MB but the maps too small to be any good.

The facility editor however is a good tool and gives a pictorial view of the .xml. You can change the icons in the root editor folder in 'programme files' to make them a little more user fiendly. I can't figure a way of making the ground texture show though.

In the accompanying docs, Richard mentions forum discussions at Sim-HQ, back in the very early days of cfs3, wonder if they're still available?

Well I can't find a search facility at Sim HQ but forums seem to go back a long way.

I think we'd be looking late 2005, early 2006, going by the dates of the zip file. Richard included the 2003 email from Martin Wright as part of the package, but the editor itself came later.

How is this done?:kilroy:

I found it!
I was thinking about this and realized I had this somewhere on a CD from the past..(never used it)

1-20-07 CFS3 Editor Third CD from 2007 I opened, LUCKY Guess.. (Might be on a 2006 CD too yet?)

Found this from then, but there wasn't instructions given back then either..
Oh well time to experiment and learn..

How is this done?

The default location for the editor and the icons it uses is: C:\Program Files\CFS3 Mission Editor\Images

In that folder are 64 sq pixel bmp files that can be modified to suit your own taste. You can enlarge the bmp size but in won't display any bigger on screen unfortunately.

Pat may have to add this information from you to the read me file for this..
And re-upload it..
any More bits of worldly knowledge on this is most welcomed..
Thanks very much..

Sim HQ discussion

Hi Owen,

thanks for taking on the massive task of going through your personal archives! If you happen to come across the SimHQ forum discussion about the mission and facility editor (per Mongoose's post above), it would be great if you could attach the discussion to this thread. I had a look through about 50 pages of the forum threads yesterday, and while I came across a lot of threads about korean Skies, there was nothing specifically about the mission and facility editor. Its probable that the discussion is buried in a thread with a different title.

Except - on re-reading PatP's post, he's talking about a time earlier than I was looking. I looked 2005-2008.

:wavey:

Can this be used with the various add-on, is it just a matter of adjusting the installation path?

yes, from memory its under a drop down menu. when you start it for the first time, you are given the chance to choose the installation path. then you can change the path later on by choosing options in a drop down menu.

Yes you can change the installation path for this, and where it looks for stuff..
I have it looking in my ETO Advanced set up on my K drive..
Works fine there..
Still sorting out how to use this properly..

Once I do Look Out, Middle Earth and Hobbiton facilities I can see a need for!!:applause:
Perhaps Mordor too :icon_eek:
Yea I know, someone kick the Hobbit!
:icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:
