OK, now that the Beaufighter AI problem has been resolved I'm back to those B-25's. Here's the first of about 6 complete B-25's I've been working on. These are all based on TR's B-25's and SC's skin templates. Make sure to follow the Read Me Files....

B-25C/D TOKYO SLEEPER 405th Bomb Sqn. 38th Bomb Group Mid 42 to Mid 43. 17-Mile Durand Airfield Port Moresby PNG

This a complete aircraft with an upgraded DP, Advanced Payloads for Skip-Bombing (Bomb DP Included), Parafrags + WP, Main Panel with Bomb Bay Warning Light and Full Weapons Counters, Double "High/Low" Aim Point Rear Sight Panel, Norden Type Bombsight, Bomb Bay Fuel Tank and additional Aircraft Control Panels. Also Included is a semi historical mission where you bomb the Wairopi Bridge on the Kokada Trail to practice your level bombing.

B-25C-1 "CHATTER BOX" 90th Bomb Sqn. 3rd Attack Group Jan '43 to April 16 '43. 17-Mile Durand Airfield, Port Moresby, PNG

This a complete aircraft with an upgraded Airfile, Aircraft.cfg which allows the AI's to complete low level attack missions, DP, Advanced Payloads for Skip-Bombing (Components in the Tokyo Sleeper Package), Parafrags + WP, Main Panel with Bomb Bay Warning Light and Full Weapons Counters, Double "High/Low" Aim Point Rear Sight Panel and additional Aircraft Control Panels.

The skins have been updated and improved too.

At the plate: Dirty Dora
On Deck: Hell's Fire
In the Hole: SC asked me to take his Tondelayo Skin and release it as a complete aircraft...
Scouting Report: Something about a gal named Peggy, or is that just short for her real name, there's also something Spooky in the wind...

Enjoy! :ernae:

Thanks pen for everything and especially for relieving my fears that you were keeping Dirty Dora for yourself. :friday:

Wow Pen, have you figured out how to put more than 24 hours into one day? Thanks for all your work!
Mike

Thanks Gents, wait until you've used them for a day or two, then tell me what you think of them.

I've been slowing picking away at them since TR finished the final MDL's. Work has been very busy so with these two I've been packaging them up bit by bit. The Airfiles and A/C.cfg are carry overs from the old Stock B-25 Hard Nose, the one with the nose and side pack guns as part of the payload. Those files have been a WIP for more than a year. With TR and SC taking on the new B-25's I revisited these files and fine tuned them.

On Skip Bombing: The first problem with Skip-Bombing in CFS2 is that there is only one Attack Profile for the AI's to attack moving targets with bombs. It goes like this...

Get to about 6500', get behind the target, dive at about 65*, drop bomb, pull out...

Now this just won't do. So, what attack profile best fits that of a Skip-Bombing Run? A Torpedo Attack of course.... So, you need Torpedo that looks like a Bomb.... That's the only way the AI's will perform a Torpedo Attack, if the class of weapon they have in their payload is that of a Torpedo.

Next problem, torpedoes dropped by the player at high speed and close range dive under the ship's DP....

I found that CFS2 has several Weapons Classes available that are not used, both rockets and torpedoes. I found a class of torpedo that the player could drop at greater than 200 knots and within 300 meters of a ship without it taking the plunge. Several months ago I wrote a thread about it. I then converted DB's US 500lb GP "c" into this class of weapon. This weapon is used on very few DP's and you still have the "a", 'b", "d" and "fb" 500lb bombs to use on other aircraft.

The end result is that the player can perform a skip bombing attack, drop this Torpedo-Bomb, it will display a splash and then will strike a ship. The AI's use the Torpedo Attack profile and score hits too.

Down sides: You'll have to replace the "c" bomb in other DP's.
For the player there is no delayed explosion of the weapon.
The AI's leave Torp Tracks but the time required to reach the hull is well within the limits of the delayed fuses really used by the 5th AF.

So we have a workable solution. Is it Perfect? No... It's the best I could figure out within the limits of the CFS2 engine.

Enjoy
