Thank you for this excellent link Fibber. This is indeed a definitive list, the best I have seen. Looks like tin cans took the brunt of USN losses.
 
P14; Thanks for your response and glad you found it informative. Indeed the cans took the brunt of surface engagement losses. When I rode one of those it was at a time when many WW2 guys were still around and would describe the life expectancy of a can in a battle, and it was usually short for some..
The boats took a large percentage of the losses and would remain on " eternal patrol" with no one to know where.
I had a site that was similar but for aircraft and thought I had posted it but can't find it on my box. THAT was really full of info on each aircraft.
