USN 42 - This follows the USN Carriers from January 1942 until January 1943

After the attack on Pearl Harbor the USN had to depend on their Carriers. This is their story as they fought back against the Japanese.Early on they attacked Wake and Gilbert Islands. The Battle of Coral Sea and Midway are covered. Finally the Invasion of Guadalcanal including The Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz. There are 74 missions in total, but as it's a dynamic campaign you will only fly a certain number of them each time you fly the campaign.

Thanks CK and UT,at least someone shows some appreciation and thanks.Guess the other members are just shy.

Not shy Hiede. Looks like a great set of missions in a crucial time in WWII. I have not installed any new items in months because have been sidelined due to life/family issues. I may d/l this but not sure when I will get it up and running. I haven't flown in months. Thanks for the efforts. Your "home team" makes it look easy by as much as you do-I know it is time and effort to do this.
Thanks

Hiede, thanks for this campaign! I had some issues in real life and therefore not much tome for the sim recently, but now things look to become more quiet, so I can get back to it.

Just started this campaign and it is one of the best I have flown. UT scenery and the new ships are great!

Hello Hiede,

I have started your USN42 campaign and intend to give you my feed-back on the way it goes experienced from here.
First I have to say is that it is immediately immersive. The new scenes ands object of UncleTgt (many thanks) are absolutely great and you take the best from it. The decor don't make it all but it is a key for realistic missions. Few campaigns had de same effect on me before.
What is excellent also is that you have set accessible goals with very realistic environment from a pilot stand point. I mean the payloads are appropriate, planes are the right ones among all the available stuff, I just have to select the good skin in the very large library I set along the years.
I did the first 4 mission and will probably do a couple or more every days of this week.
So about what I noted that might be of interest to consider:
In the 1st mission when arriving to Wake my wingmen have a tendancy to crash on the field, an issue wich is famous in CFS2, not sure there is a cure.
In the 2d mission, with the Dauntless, I have changed the original DP with the provided one but get 1 500lb bomb and 2 drop tanks. No a pb for me to change when loading but cant do it for the wingmen unless editing the file mission. It may be I goofed with the DP....
3rd mission (USN 42 001a) looks very similar to the 2d, which is not an issue in itself, but I probably missed the possible difference (?).
4th mission I have not all the TBD payloads required in my library. Do you know where to get it?
Last detail, at the beginning of the campaign I have seen 'Pearl Harbour... december 42'.
In short: it is a very good start for this campaign, I can't believe you just start doing mission and campaigns!!
I know all the work it requires having done for myself few missions, I just can say keep-up the good work! I will start soon your P38 Solomon campaign.

Cheers

Aloha Mercure

I didn't do any of the missions,my son did all the work.I just upload them for him.He updated Talons missions( his uncle),upgraded the Wake missions by Pen32Win and wrote his own.

If you downloaded the Devastator by Captain Kurt the bombs and torpedo should be included in the package.

I checked the Dauntless mission and the right load out was there-1 x 500 lb and 2 x 100 lb bombs.Maybe you got the dp mixed up.

The skins are all by UT and should be easy to find.

The P-38 campaign is also a rework of the Talon campaign,it's adapted to new Solomons scenery.

Glad you are enjoying it.

Bonjour Hiede,

Thanks for your prompt reply and help.
TBD is all set now, but I confirm a glitch with the SBD.
I saw in the USN 24 001.mis file that the payload called is #5. Which the one with the drop tank as per the sbd3.dp file in the USN42 zip.
The one with the 100lbs bombs is #2
So I had 2 options: renumber the payload in all the .mis files with SBD or change the .dp file. That what I did and now all is fine.
I will be back to you soon.

Many thanks to your son also.

Aloha Mercure,
I found the problem. One of the donation ware Dauntless was just called FDG2_SBD-3_Dauntless.Not realizing Talon did this to make things simple for his missions. My son and I didn't know this.

Just make a folder named FDG2_SBD-3_Dauntless add that to the same line in the cfg file.He used the textures for the early war( VS-2) and add the dp file from the Wasp I provided.Hopefully this solves the problem.

Taking a look at intalling USN42. My 87 days of Cactus has as number of other missions, etc added such as Talon's USMC bomber, USMC Aces, 44FS and VMF-121 and 124. I think my best bet to avoid the fog of war and fog of my brain is to do a clean re- install of Cactus .
I do have a large enough HD and I have been away from the "cockpit" for quite a while. Any thoughts?

Highpockets,

That might be a good idea. You have to add the Gilberts and Marshall Islands. It is also installed in original Cactus install by Captain Kurt with no problems and a separate install.

Aloha Hiede,

Just a word to let you know I progress in the campaign with no remark but my deep appreciation.
Trying to be picky and nasty: is there a way to have the Nell exploding on Wotje when bombed? I mean in addition to the bomb explosion itself?
Again: I do my best here to find something annoying 😁

Well understood Hiede, and your son uses Talon's work as a base he improves with last available elements.
Like those ones provided by Uncle Target (kind of Santa by the way).
I thought to give some feed-back was expected ;)
Please give him my kindest regards.

Cheers

My son has also written his own missions.

The Big E Campaign he wrote,he did missions for the Midway Campaign and also wrote a few missions for the P-40 Campaign in the Solomons.

As for updating the Campaigns,Captain Kurt and SW07 have been doing the same thing to use the new ships, scenery and planes.Talon can't do that since he passed away in 2015,so my son did it.Talon was also his Uncle.
