V4 Won't Load

I flew several hours this morning, all went well and the Sim was shut down correctly. I turned the computer off before I left the house since I would be gone all day. Turned it on about an hour ago (noticed that Windows had performed an update and gave some information about some new update to Windows10 that's coming up. . . .I allowed it to shut down and restart) and decided to go fly some more. The progress bar stops at 6% (loading Terrain Data) and does not go any further. I've deleted the P3D config file and the shaders to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions on why. . .all of a sudden it decides to give me problems?

Try uninstalling the client and reinstalling. Failing that try uninstalling the client and content then installing both again.

if its loading to 6% and crashing its a scenery issue thats causing the crash

Ive been there about a few 100 times the past few weeks experiencing with importing and modifying scenery

before doing any form of uninstall delete your terrain cfg first then restart and allow it to rebuild from fresh as there is a conflict in that cfg

failing that delete your scenery.cfg than restart so both are rebuilt

just remember to back up your scenery.cfg so you can copy over your addons or use a addon editor to restore it

Pulled the Terrain.cfg first and the problem remained so I pulled the Scenery.cfg next and that fixed it. I have not added any new scenery in several days and the flights have been uneventful and the Sim has loaded each day and evening with no problems. . .until this evening. There is no figuring how or why this stuff happens I guess, you just have to accept it as part of Simming.

sweet,

Ive been deliberately finding ways to crash v4 while im in a sling and cant fly and working out how and why with aircraft and scenery to educate myself and have a better understanding on the changes in 64bit vs 32bit.

there are some interesting ways that never existed in v3 or fsx to kill the sim, one thing i have noticed with v4 that a minor scenery glitch in any cfg v4 is more likely to crash unlike v3 or fsx where it just ignored to load the fault and continued to run with errors

its been a eye opener reverse engineering v4 and pulling apart files and seeing what works and what doesnt

I had the same Windows update Ed, and was able to open the sim OK. Every time Windows updates, it borks all of my sharing options. I have to go back and individually re-task the folders I want shared.

It's possible that the Windows update made some changes that affect your security settings, and trickled down to your .cfg file locations. P3D is so darned finicky that it will shut itself down every time a sparrow breaks wind.

Actually finding the cause is like looking for a needle in a needle stack.

P3D v4 ran fine for me yesterday. After your post, I went to check Windows Update (Win 10 Pro), and was met with:

"Some settings are hidden or managed by your organization.

Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going: Check for Updates"

Clicking on the stupid button did nothing, yesterday's cumulative was never installed, ended up having to update manually from the Microsoft website. Just when I was bragging that I liked Win 10.
Anyhoo, P3D4 still works fine after the latest update, but I still have the "Some settings are hidden..." message on the Updates page, just not the "at risk" part. I installed P3D4 the day after the previous May 29th update...wonder if it's related? Who's the Windows Insider here?
