Need a little help.
I sent my son a copy of OFF P2 and purchased CFS3 cd 2 disc version for him.
He tried to install CFS3 today. It gets around 21% installed and this pops up
" can not copy vampire_shutdown.wav file".
It will not continue with the installation.

OS is XP. He built the pc last year, has a quad core processor and 8800 GTS vid card, 2 gigs of ram.
Oh, he's an electrical engineer with Intel.

Any help?
Thanks
GB

The Vampire is one of the default CFS3 British aircraft.

Ok, that aside... it sounds like either the CD is bad, or the reader is having issues. That's about it. It's just a simple .WAV file it's asking for. Is it a copy, or an original CD?

I HAD a CFS3 disc that suddenly wouldn't go past 76%, no matter what I tried. I presently have THAT Disc #2 in "D". It works great as a play disc, but it just refused to install. Some times a good CD cleaning helps.

I had to by another

PS . . The vampire is a British WWII jet

Original cd.
he said that the files that did install had a created date of 2002 . this particular file was showing that it was created today. Said its like somthing is trying to rewrite the file instead of just copying it.

Not trying to tell the electrical engineer WHAT To Do BUT. I would

Defragment

Get OFF the Internet

Disable the Anti-Virus

Get some OPTRIX CD Cleaner, and some tissues

clean that disc, and try again

STILL NG . . . . have Dad get another.

I bought that CD Set new in 2002. Worked Fine THEN

Yeah, try cleaning the CD with alcohol, then buffing it a little on a cotton shirt.

Just make sure that when you buff it a little with the cotton shirt, buff from the inside out in straight strokes. Don't go round and round the disk, that could possibly make minute scratches around the cd thus throwing the laser off.

Maybe check that file actually exists in CFS3 folders (probably in \aircraft\... ) somewhere first?
Also try a reboot in case the file was locked.

Like....

Installed a mungo "Home Theatre system" for a m8 once, Fired it up no probs, job well done. Went home 3 hrs later I get a call, "it won't play discs!"
Turns out old mates little girls had "Kentucky Duck" for tea and the disc tray was swimming in chicken FAT & 32 secret herbs and spices!! :isadizzy:
Thanks Colonel! :friday:
CheerZ!

Well I was wrong about it being a new disk. It was very dirty, he cleaned it and it worked fine.
He tried to install OFF and he has the missing DLL file problem. I told him to do a seach on the forum as its been answered many times.

Thanks for everyones help.

Hey GG, yeah Dad will buy things to get him interested in OFF but HE got me a pair of rudder pedals for Christmas.:jump:
cheers

Hello,
sometimes it may be a dirty CD/DVD player lens - had this quite a few times.
Greetings and Happy New Year :ernae:

No problem GB, I learned that one through my daughter...

"Daddy, the movie keeps breaking up when it plays..."
"Sweetie, did you touch the DVD?"
"No Daddy, it's clean"

Then when I check it.... peanut-butter finger prints, cat hair, sludge... etc.. etc...

:banghead:
