VC Modding= Question

I've got a problem. I've been trying to learn new stuff while doing a repaint for Joe Binka's Wilga. The repaint is pretty much done, and I've been messing about with the Virtual Cockpit, trying to add some more life in it, As the stock/default panel was bland. I searched for photos of the panel, and mixed/matched a multitude of things to get what I have now. Compared to the stock panel, mine is quite a bit better. With the exception of one minor problem. You can clearly see my gauges behind the black square. While viewing the VC in FSrepaint, it looks as it should (no black area), but when I load it up in the flight sim, I see a black square instead of the gauges. I've been trying to figure out what the trouble is. For the life of me, I don't have a clue. The layering is perfect (as FSrepaint says)

I'm stumped:faint:

Any ideas would help a whole bunch?

If you've done anything with the textures, go back and compare the alpha channels of the originals with the new version - just a guess...

Tom's guess might be the problem....or lead to the answer.

I'm not sure how you got the black square on the section of the default panel. That would be a good place to start.

That area of the panel, from the readme, included a couple of 2D gauges in the panel.cfg. However, Joe could never get permission from the original gauge maker, so included them in the cfg if you have them or are willing to track them down. ([Vcockpit01])

I tried a simple test to see if the VC would take gauges on the stock version, in that area...and it does.

Hope that helps lead you in the right direction...and a solution.

Test area from the panel.cfg

Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=512,512
visible=1
pixel_size=1024
texture=$panel1

//gauge00=STT_An2_V1_0!Clock, 1,37,283,273
//gauge01=STT_An2_V1_0!CarbTemp, 288,67,217,214
gauge00=douglas_dc3!clock, 1,37,283,273
gauge01=Douglas_DC3!carb_air_temp, 288,67,217,214

Thanks for the reply guys.

Tom, that's what I checked first thing. I had to change out the textures for all of them to get anything to show the way they are now. As you can see I still need to refine a bit more.

Thanks for the lead.

Dogknot..

You pinned my problem I bet. It somewhat makes sense to me. I tried searching Google for the gauges. All I can find are leads to the same problem I have without an answer where I can find the gauges. I'm going to assume I need the related textures also?

Can you tell me what aircraft the gauges needed, are in? I'm gonna guess it's a payware.

This dilemma with the black square covering the gauges is happening to ALL the panels. I don't know why me messing about with my Wilga Tundra repaint would affect all of them in the main folder? It's strange.

Like I was mentioning earlier, I don't know a thing about panels. All I saw was the plain gray dash was not very pleasing. So I figured what the heck, it's a texture, and it can be edited just like anything else. At that standpoint I just dove in.

It's interesting how pieces of the puzzle get placed to make things work in the end...lol.

If you don't mind sharing your wisdom, I'll gladly absorb more!!

Thank you :ernae:

gauges -- from Joe's readme:

There is a spot for 2d guages, I didnt include my clock and carb temp gauges, cuz they werent mine. I got them from an AN2 I downloaded, and couldnt find the author... so theyre in the panel.cfg, but you'll have to find them or add your own.
=======================

I don't know which AN2, but it's a start, even though I don't think that will solve anything for your problem. I assume the black square showed up after the texture changes.

Somewhere in the texture mapping would most likely be causing that black square. There is probably some unnoticed spot in the texture bmp's you've manipulated (wilga_map1_T.bmp, wilga_map2_T.bmp, or xxx). Like Tom mentioned, compare the orig alpha's with your reconfigured ones.

An afterthought: since the black square is showing in all the models of the Wilga, I would guess a corrupted "binks_pzl_104.cab" gauge file. Did you happen to open that up and make some changes to the bitmaps within?

All is fixed with the missing gauges and the black square has gone bye bye. :woot: I listed them just as you showed and it works great in all planes. now I can get back to my mission.

Thanks heaps Dogknot :ernae:

Thanks to Tom and Dogknot the VC has made positive headway, and is looking much better than stock.
