Version 4.1

Did they ever release a changelog? I have not seen one...thought it was supposed to be a couple days before?

I will wait to be sure (or will wait for updates) that PTA and Active Sky work with this new 4.1. Im waiting for any news/changelog.

I am looking forward to this as with my new Video card I can join the party :jump:. I read somewhere that this may be a full install due to the number of updates... time will tell. Haven't had P3D since V2 so I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps after the update 4.1 we will see the news about official support of FTX addons with new OF2:

Hello,beta testing has finished.
If you want to opt in now, you will have the virtually finished product and FTX Central version 3.2.2.8

I have a lot of time invested in the current V4, which is spectacular, and I am not anxious to do a complete re-install.
That said, I know I'll do it, so what I just said is Bollocks. :untroubled:

I have located all of my third party assets to add-ons folders outside the main sim, so the re-installs are actually relatively painless at this stage of the game. Still..I always hold my breath a bit.

Active Sky & ChasePlane
If those two are read to go, I'll pull the trigger.

Does anyone know how P3Dv4 will update? Will it be an auto-update like Steam (P3Dv4 starts updating as soon
as the update is available and you start the sim), or will the update be selectable at my convenience?

I came directly to v4 from FSX, so I don't know how LM has done these in the past.

Thanks - Rob

P3D doesn't auto update. The new version will be available via your downloads links.
The scope of the update dictates whether you can update modules or do an complete re-install.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably do then just like I do with new Nvidia drivers: let the more knowledgeable and
adventurous have first crack at the update and see what their experiences are.

So far this initial version of v4 has been working very well for me, much better than FSX. I will be interested in
seeing what the update brings.

Thanks again - Rob

The jump to a 64bit platform is a big commitment, and is definitely worth approaching with due diligence. That said, for those coming directly in from FSX, V4 does offer a very stable and well organized platform that accommodates updates without the headaches associated with earlier simulations.

Rob, a quote from the link delmos posted above

[...]

Matt has made it very clear that it doesn’t require a full install and confirms that you’ll have to update the individual components (client, content and scenery). He is creating a video to help make the process as easy as possible to update, which when released, we’ll share as well to support you with the process.

[...]

I'm sure the video mentioned will help newcomers, and we at SOH are also a helpful bunch :)

Cheers,
Mark

Ugh...didn't want to hear that it will be for scenery as well. Guess I'll read up on UTX/GEP3D reinstall procedures.

We don't know enough yet.
In the past changes in the scenery part often meant the fixing of some anomalies in some places, which were superfluous if you used another product in that area anyhow. You could might as well skip that or postpone it to a later major release.

We'll know, soon!

Cheers,
Mark

Scenery fixes:

Prepar3D Scenery
Fixes and Improvements

- Fixed missing textures in St. Louis Adams Mark
- Removed invisible objects that could cause vehicle to crash at KBWI

--> only needed when you fly there, have crash detection on, have a problem with it, and no third party add on that covers it already.

Most interesting to me is:

Added support for 4k Virtual Cockpit (VC) textures

I say wow! I think I have to remap my VC building efforts :)

Cheers,
Mark

HiFi released updates for ASP4 and ASCA, but no release notes for them, not sure if they cover 4.1.
