Viewpoint saving utility?

arrowmaker

SOH-CM-2024
We all know that occassionally we'll install some aircraft, or other, only to find that the default viewpoint is somehow "out". Maybe you would prefer it to be a little more forward, or further back. Or maybe you would prefer some more viewpoints, say in a rear passenger seat. These things really aren't that much of a problem to overcome. A bit of experimenting with the cfg. file should sort you out.

I was wondering, however, if anyone knows of a utility, payware or freeware, that allows one to save their viewpoint, in game, by simply clicking on an entry in the menu? I think this would be so much simpler than experimenting with the cfg. file.

I think what Fletcher wants -- and I want too -- is something to edit camera views while you are flying, similar to ActiveCamera for FS9. Maybe the new EZDOK payware does this; I don't have it yet. For freeware, there's this:
<table align="center" bgcolor="#aaccee" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td align="left" width="*">FSCamera X 1.1 </td> <td align="right" nowrap="nowrap"> <!-- --> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> File Description:
With the program the different cameras of the FSX can be edited. Not used standard cameras can be deleted. Or copies her into the AIRCRAFT.CFG of all airplanes and deletes her as a standard camera. The cameras of the airplanes can be adjusted individually. The display of the SDK text helps at the setup of the parameter. The program creates a Camera setting flight. This flight is started from the program. At this flight the individual cameras can be placed and lined up. After saving the flight the values can be copied in the AIRCRAFT.CFG of the airplane. Furthermore single cameras makes possible deleting and adding for the program. One can adjust the parameters for the FlyBy cameras.

IR Tracker is prob the best way! no need to keep your "head" in one place.

I do have TrackIR, and as much as I love it, it's part of the problem. When TrackIR is engaged I find that the normal keyboard commands for altering viewpoints simply do not work. If I turn it off then I can quite easily change my viewpoint. However when I re-engage TrackIR the viewpoint automatically snaps back to the default.

This is why I'm after a utility that can be accessed in flight. What I would like to do is:

1) Turn off TrackIR
2) Alter my viewpoint, using keyboard commands, or maybe mouse commands
3) Save the new, or additional, viewpoint, via a menu command
4) Re-engage Track-IR, without the viewpoint reverting back to the original default

This is what I'm really after. I know it's simply for the sake of convenience, but I personally would rather avoid editing the cfg file, manually, until a viewpoint I'm happy with can be found.

Thanks Mark and David I'll give both of your suggestions a try.

Kind of related but is there a utility or easy way to creat the [CameraDefinition.xx]
sections for the aircraft.cfg file? Maybe I just need to re-read the SDK?
