Virtavia C-17A Tweaks (minor)

As some here know, Virtavia released an upgraded version of their C-17A. I decided to make some additional minor updates on the HUD and Lift/Drag settings in the aircraft config file to allow for a more normal pitch attitude/AoA and speed on landing approach. First, the HUD change I decided to use is from the Stargate AH-1 Cobra HUD update found here on SOH: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?84219-AH-1W-Super-Cobra-released-StarGate/page3
Just download the zip in that link and place the cab file named AH-1W_HUD_GD into the C-17 panel folder. Next, edit the panel config file under the [Vcockpit03] entry to look like this:

[Vcockpit03]
; HUD
file=
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=512,600
visible=0
pixel_size=512,600
texture=$vpanel3

//gauge00=Virtavia_C-17!HUD, 25, 0, 450, 600
gauge00=AH-1W_HUD_GD!AH-1W_HUD_GD, 25, 0, 450, 800 // GD tweaked 3rd party FA-18 HUD for Stargate

Regarding the slight lift/drag handling, I edited the cruise lift scalar in the flight tuning section of the aircraft config file from 2.00 back down to 1.00

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar= 1.00

and last, the flap lift/drag/pitch numbers in the flaps entries:

[Flaps.0] //Trailing edge flaps
type= 1
span-outboard= 0.50
extending-time= 13.30
system_type= 0
damaging-speed= 285.00
blowout-speed= 300.00
lift_scalar= 0.50 //<-----------
drag_scalar= 1.50 //<-----------
pitch_scalar= 0.50 //<-----------
flaps-position.0= 0.00, 350.00
flaps-position.1= 0.00, 280.00
flaps-position.2= 37.50, 250.00
flaps-position.3= 50.00, 250.00
flaps-position.4= 62.50, 190.00
flaps-position.5= 75.00, 190.00
flaps-position.6= 87.50, 175.00
flaps-position.7= 100.00, 175.00

[Flaps.1] //Slats
type= 2
span-outboard= 0.50
extending-time= 13.30
system_type= 0
damaging-speed= 285.00
blowout-speed= 300.00
lift_scalar= 0.50 //<-----------
drag_scalar= 0.50 //<-----------
pitch_scalar= 0.50 //<-----------
flaps-position.0= 0.00, 350.00
flaps-position.1= 100.00, 280.00
flaps-position.2= 100.00, 280.00
flaps-position.3= 100.00, 280.00
flaps-position.4= 100.00, 280.00

A screen shot of the HUD. (BTW, you'll get the best visuals of the HUD of it if you zoom in on it some).

Hi,

Looks nice, I'll need to check it out. My association with the 17' sort of ruined both of the payware models for me as I saw all to many mistakes or lack of details in the VC and systems... but it has been a few years now so maybe the nostalgia will make the models looks better now :)

Here are some real HUD and cockpit shots.
