Virtavia website

[FSX68]

Is the Virtavia website down? I am using firefox and recently got the
red banner with "Reported Attack page" screen. The banner is now
gone but still can't get Firefox to load their page. Have they been
hacked or something?

Use firefox and it looked like FF wouldn't let me in.

Using Firefox, if you do a Google search for Virtavia and click on the link....it appears that their front/home page has been hijacked and you are redirected to a Russian site or something. The same thing happens when trying to access the Virtavia site through IE.

FF will not load it for me and that may be a good thing.

Norton Safe Web shows the site as safe but I have my suspicions.

I checked out above and sure enough that bottom IP "IS" in Russia.

Guess FF has that protection barrier that saves you from possible hack damage to your computer.
I get the "red flag" in FF and notice a .ru in the url.
I wonder how they (virtavia) can fix the "hack" that the Ruskies did?
I too sort of suspected that this was the case as you stated and was hacked.
So FF was doing a good job in the protection. BTW FF6 is out now Good Lord,
if you don't like version your using...wait about a week and another newer version
will come along. Like waiting at the City bus stop.

When I went there yesterday morning I was getting sent to some ".ru" website with the usual fake(?) trojan horse popup. I got the heck out of there. Scanned PC and as usual all was fine. It seems to be working ok today.

You don't. You tell your website host to fix it. But from what I gather from emailing Phil, the host must have spotted it on their own and took care of it without having to be asked.

Actually its because FF is a web browser. IE is also a web browser however it is more integrated to the Operating system. This integration that exists in IE provides web based functionality for a bunch of MS products that FF and other browsers do not and can not support. Naturally this extra integration means more security risks and possibly flaws.

For instance in IE you can connect to a corporate Exchange server and use a full blown Outlook email with out having outlook installed on your PC. If you connected to the same exchange server with FF you would have to use the Light version of Outlook (read less bells and whistles).

This is why I now say use FF, Opera, or Safari for Web surfing and use IE where it is needed.

It has its place it is just not normal day to day surfing.
