Vista question....

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I'm a recent Vista inmate and have had a few gripes.

Is it always the case with FS that you get better fps in full screen mode, in windowed mode I get a substantial drop, even freeze in fps, makes working in AFX nigh on impossible!! FPS return to good when full screen is selected.

In all previous versions of FS/CFS I've had the opposite was true, I'm confused and is there anything I can do to improve things?

Also get a black screen whenever I task switch, sim still running, if I hit Esc it quits and if I hit Return it launches the flight, I just can't see anything!! Any suggestions, gonna check for new graphic drivers, but I installed the latest within the last 2 weeks. This leads me to the next Q....

Does FS9 run better in XP compatibility mode? Gonna try and see if it cures my whoes but thought I'd ask for any feedback as the more info I have the better.

I use Vista32 Ultimate, Jamie, and as far as I have found, we have the same issues.i am not aware of too many fixes; As far as the 'black box', I simply tab out of FS, ad when I go back in, it is still there...HTH

Quick answer: don't waste your time on this.
Dig out an old XP install if you can, otherwise just live with it.
Win7 is only a few months away.
This is serious advice...

Thanks guys....

Bummer, all my XP discs are OEM and tied to the machines they came with, could probably get them to work, but probably won't be worth the effort.

Have you done everything in your power to neuter Vista?
I do not have these problems on Vista - perhaps there is some setting I have turned off and you have not that is causing the problem?

I use Vista Home Premium without any compatiblity mode. Fullscreen gives you best performance in most games. So it is best to always use fullscreen.

There are some graphical glitches when you force the game to run at high AA settings with Nhancer. I get a black screen when I taskswitch when I am in the menu and sometimes the kneeboard is transparant. Other than that everything works just fine.

Isnt there still some Win7 freeware betas out there???

Newegg.com has decent priced WinXP CD's. I think you can still get original, sealed WinXP kits at Ebay.com.

<-- WinXP and MacOSX!!! woo hooooo!
