VN_USS_Indianapolis

I've had the same thing happen to me alpha_1. The best I can figure out is it is not a problem with mdlnames.txt, or sound/panel folders, or even the name punctuation because all of those are correct. What's more, it's an intermittent occurrence even when the same mission is repeated.

For some freaky reason CFS2 sometimes can't differentiate between between the two similar names. After fighting it for some time I gave up :p87: and did what Rami advises. It's the path of least resistance. I use Morton's utility to switch to the stock Indianapolis and then the missions will work fine.

Many Thanks

Hi All;

Many thanks for all the infeed. It is appreciated. I haven't had time to get back into the nuts and bolts yet, but I will. It's sure nice to be surrounded by you guys, let me tell you.

I WILL let you know what happens and I'll be trying your suggestions to see if I can get to the bottom of this.

Cheers;

Update

Here's what I've done, Guys;

I swapped the .dp files for both carriers and cruisers and renamed them, of course. I also cut down the number of ships in my 'ships' folder. The result is not too bad.

I'm running the mssion from the campaign folder and not independently from the missions folder as I did before. The Indy now shows up and I get no messages about missing ships in the 'Advanced Info' screen.

The flak problem though has me stymied. On taking off, the flak is less but it's still pretty severe. It took a couple of tries to get fully airborne, and even then with substantial damage to my bird. I'm wondering why there's any flak at all, though. There's no enemy in the area and I doubt that the USN would be shooting at it's own ships and known flight paths so close to the carrier.

I'm going to replace the stock Enterprise with the same from a default install that I keep handy and see if that helps with the flak. You never know. I'll be back shortly with the results........

............ Well, I tried that and it doesn't work at all. For now I'll stick with the swapped dp files.

Cheers;:running:

alpha_1,

Someplace one of your aircraft is showing up as an enemy.

Make sure that all of your aircraft DPs have this:

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=7
max_group_size=8
min_speed=240
cruise_speed=435
max_speed=590
min_alt=50
cruise_alt=5893
max_alt=8839
entered_service=11/1/40
crew=1

OR THIS:

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=3
max_group_size=8
min_speed=240
cruise_speed=435
max_speed=590
min_alt=50
cruise_alt=5893
max_alt=8839
entered_service=11/1/40
crew=1

If you have the Med screens with USN as [3] and USAAF as [7] you have to have one or the other in your P-40s DP.

Also, make sure all of your ship DPs are listed as ALLIED.

That should cure the flak.

DD73

Hi DD, thanks for the advice. I checked every allied aircraft and they're all either 3 or 7 in the dp file. I don't know what you mean by 'allied' for the ships, though. I'm still getting serious flak the second I lift off from the end of the flight deck, doesn't matter what aircraft I try. That's gotta mean something's haywire with the ships, doesn't it?

I've also reinstalled Blade's effects_2, thinking the flak was too strong or something.......no joy:banghead:. Also copied over the stock ships from a basic install......no joy:banghead:. With fewer ships in the ships folder I no longer get any 'can't find' messages.......check:biggrin-new:.

I'm feeling dumber 'n a newborn calf right about now.

Cheers;:toilet_claw:

Alpha,

The ships need "Allegiance=1 OR 3 OR 7" in their DP file also. Definitely not a 2-4-6-8 if you are using the RAMI standard Country.cfg.

I suspect you have one ship that has an Axis allegiance number in its DP instead of an Allied number.

You can test this by opening the mission and campaign files for mission 1 in Mission Builder.

If any of your ships or aircraft show up in RED, that is your bandit.

I am going to load and fly the first mission and get back to you.

DD73

Okay,

I just flew Mission 1 from carrier to Morocco and no flak over the ships at all.

Do me a favor, take off and fly a circular patter around the carrier group of ships at about 2500 feet and see if you can see who is shooting at you.

Turn on your labels so that you can see your aircraft and ship names. If any names show in red, that is your bad guy(s).

Hit F4 three times and look at yourself and your flight and see if you or your wingmen are labeled in red.

To have flak, somebody has to be coded as Axis.

While flying, check your aircraft targeting button and see if you can target any aircraft, then switch to targeting ships and see if you can target any ships. If you can target anything, that is the unit that is coded as Axis.

An easy way to do this is to hit the targeting key and then tell your flight to attack this target and see if / who they attack.

Hi DD;

My country config is the same as yours. I'm going to try doing as you suggest........If I can get off the deck at all. That's the problem. The second I'm airborne, all hell breaks loose. I hear what you're saying and I agree. Before I even start my engine, I'll see what I can target. There has to be something that isn't 'allied' in this string.

I'll give it my best shot tonight and get back to you as well. Thanks again.

Early morning update....just tried that and found that every ship in the fleet is targetable. The aircraft are all friendlies, not the ships. What the ....??

I have to run right now, but I'll be back this evening for sure.

Cheers;

check the ships DPs themselves. you may have added something by mistake.

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=7

if the allegiance isn't 3 or any other ally number then there is your problem. another thing to check would be the aircraft DP for the same thing.

I haven't opened the mission in MB as I don't have everything to do so. but that would be another option for you. just don't save it.

Eureka!!

'k.......problem solved. What you see in Italics here is what I was missing at the beginning of my country.cfg file. Thanks, DD. This makes all the difference in the world. On takeoff there's not a peep of AA fire anywhere, as it should be.
