Vought F7U Cutlass released!

DennyA

SOH-CM-2023
This was announced back in October on the Virtavia site, but I missed it until recently. Phil has a Vought F7U-3M Gutless on the way! LOVE 50's naval jets, so excited to see this. Coming with native versions for both 2020 and 2024 in "late 2025, early 2026."

I'll go ahead and make my "yes, I know it's not the right variant, but I'd still love a Blue Angels repaint so I can simulate that horrible failed test run they did with the F7U-1" repaint request now. :)

Hopefully this means the F4D Skyray (my fave), F3H Demon, etc. are on the way as well. Everyone buy the Cutlass to encourage those!

I'm always interested in these rare jets, especially the ones used by the Navy.
However on the Virtavia website it seems there's not a single shot of the cockpit ?

PS: DennyA just for info I might have pressed the "ignore" button by accident after your profile popup suddenly appeared in front of my mouse cursor, sorry about that. I pressed the "unignore" button right away but not sure if I did that correctly. Just wanted to let you know...

I think the lack of cockpit shots is because that was the first teaser, over 2 months ago. Hopefully we’ll see those soon.

S-O doesn’t tell if people ignore you so I had no idea I was momentarily persona non grata. :)

Ah, Ye olde Gutless! Lots of innovation in aircraft technology, but with Westinghouse engines from Hell. I will surely get it, but I wish they'd consider a dash one, so I could do a Blue Angel livery. They acquired two for test during the 1952 season.

This is the 1/70 scale old Aurora F7U-1 Cutlass in Blue Angels markings, that I literally scratch-built using the old kit as a basic start.

A few of my plastic models that survived. At the top the Fujimi (IIRC) 1:72 Chance-Vought F-7U-3P Cutlass photo-reconnaissance completely covered with house-hold aluminium foil (i did a Heller 1:72 L-749 Constellation that way too. Took more than a year. To avoid wrinkling of the alu foil every panel needs to be applied seperately..)

I love aircraft just for their looks. Normally i know not that much about their background. I just read somewhere that the Cutlass "was so much a fish out of water". No doubt true and probabely that's why i liked it so much. Of course i had the Virtavia F-7U as well and liked the external model very much particularly after maestro Lheureux sprayed some of his magical paint on it. (as well as the F3H-Demon, B-47 Stratojet and A-3 Skywarrior, probabely more..). I can't remember how those 'Alphasim' models used to fly in FSX and before but i do know i still can't land the Virtavia A-4 Skyhawk without ending up in the shrubbery. So not really much hope for this "fish out of water" but i need to have it anyway. :santahat:

I remember the excellent repaints Pierre did for the FS9 AlphaSim/Virtavia F7U Cutlass. I probably still have them on a zip drive somewhere...
I have always thought of Pierre as the repainter pur sang. With his superb repaint work he made the already not half bad looking Alphasim/Virtavia external models something you just couldn't afford not to have. He turned them into models of a higher class. Phil must've been very happy with Pierre picking up his range of cold war jets. I was very moved when i was told that Pierre passed away in the mean time. A great loss for the FS community.

Of all Virtavia's back catalogue, they chose to update that horror? Ugh, no thanks
Speak for yourself. The 50's jets that were "learning experiences" and super-challenging to fly are as interesting to some of us as the more mainstream ones that got it all right.

I mean, the F4D Skyray needs to be next. But still...

I will surely get it, but I wish they'd consider a dash one, so I could do a Blue Angel livery.
I hope you'll still consider doing one. An F7U-3 looks a bit different, but some level of imagination is always necessary for sim flying anyway, and I'd still love to add it to my Blue Angels hangar.

Of course I am speaking for myself - simply my personal opinion about the aircraft.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, as always, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
LOL 🤣🤣🤣

It might not win a beauty contest, but it is still a cool looking 1950's naval fighter. 😎

It would be nice in IMHO, if there are no canopy reflections, especially at night, no canopy scratches of any kind and it has some built in stability so you can fly it without it being all over the sky.

I hope the F4D Skyray is next too, there are so many.

Could also use these and many more, but guess that may never happen.
