That was Awesome!!! Is that the FS9 version? It looked as good as FSX VC.

Only one thing missing. Exploding missile and bad guy.

I want to see flying aircraft and body parts! :costumes:
 
so...what exactly are we talking about here? Is this a true simulation of air to air weapons or is this smoke and mirrors? Can I use this in multiplayer to shoot people down?
 
I reckon if you want to shoot people down, you'll need a combat sim like Lomac, but the sheer fact alone, that you can release ordnance must be worth acknowledgement. Also the fact that the aircraft dynamics also change after firing...

But that is why the link is there in Cody's post - so we can learn more about it.

From what I see, you can do everything right up to the "kill", and from the film soundtrack, I'd say there's an audio signal to point out "contact". So the answer is likely a No. The other plane will fly on...

Just like kids in the garden, playing cowboys and indians - "Bang, bang, you're dead", "Oh no I ain't", "Oh yes you are!", "Ain't!", "Is!"... :d

...but the site is definitely worth a visit for the eye candy.
 
You have to understand I am limited in what I can say. The site does explain a lot of information regarding the questions you guys are asking however.

I will say that this simulator is definitely a high fidelity simulation of this particular aircraft. Munitions are not limited to what you see in the video. Even after flying this aircraft this long, I learn new stuff constantly on every flight. I would be so bold as to say this might be the PMDG of military simulations for FS.
 
Looks great, Cody, but I can see at the site FS9 images, FS9 preorder and another ''coming soon''.Yes, the specs are great, but nothing about a true FSX model
 
The FSX version is being developed. I was assured by the owner of VRS (whom I visited this last Saturday) that the new FSX version will have full specular lighting, bump mapping, etc, including new features that FSX has which means more goodies for the plane.

Right now it is planned for FS9 first and then FSX.
 
Cody, I don't mind pre-ordering this FS9 aircraft if the avionics I saw in the video will work in FSX and the plane will fly within FS9 developed limitations. However, if this plane is strictly a FS9 version, I see no reason to promote it here in the FSX forum.

I saw in the video REX clouds, which I presume is being developed for FSX. I also saw a radar operating in a manner I associate with FSX aircraft.

So, my question is, do I pay $45 now for a cuting edge FS9 airplane THAT WILL preform resonably well in FSX or, wait a year and hope VRS is still around in a year when the FSX version comes out?
 
The version in the video is filmed in FS2004. The FSX version is being built worked on.

Everything you see will work in both versions.

The plane for FSX will be exactly the same but will have advancements as FSX allows, both in textures, etc but also in the advancements in FSX itself including polygon levels, etc.

If you are strictly wanting the FSX version, a port over simply won't work. You need to wait for VRS to craft the full FSX version, as many of the systems will not port directly over, including the very advanced and by the book radar system. This is one reason both versions are not being released at the same time.

I understand the skepticism displayed here, and I can assure you this aircraft is worth all the publicity. My concern is that the project has been in development for over 2 years, yet very few people know about it. I aim to change that. Since it IS being built for FSX as well, why not publicize it here as well?

Because it might give people the idea it is a FSX airplane. I understand your enthusiasm. I have been following it for over a year. Frankly, I had figured it was dead. I am glad to see I was wrong.

However, the site says the FSX model won't be ready until late 2009. That is a year away, or close to a year. I would love to see a FSX model ready. I would buy it tonight. However, I won't put money down on something that won't be ready for a year.

I don't want to leave Cody hanging in the wind here regarding features, so if you have any questions I'll be happy to take them.

First of all, FSX vs FS9. You're right, probably not the right forum. We are currently working to get the FS9 version out and the FSX version is a ways off. You can't fly this thing in FSX even as a direct port. There are way too many dependencies, and we're not exactly using stock gauges either. At best you'd end up with is something that looks and flies like a Starkist tuna can.

I'll go ahead and answer some of these questions, and then if the admins want to move the topic, please feel free.

The weapon simulations are designed to support the aircraft simulation as a whole, not to try and convert MSFS into something it's not. By that I mean we want you to be able to use all the avionics in a way that's realistic. That includes locking up AI with the radar, firing on them, and seeing the missile flyout on the displays exactly as it would be presented in the real aircraft. In order to support that, we needed, well missiles!...

Every station on the plane can be independently loaded and fired/jettisoned. The weight and drag are removed, the weapons animates in a manner consistent with the type of weapon it is, and then it disappears into animation oblivion.

If the weapon was a hit (yes, we calculate rudimentary trajectories, ranges, and maneuvering envelopes), the AI aircraft will drop off radar and, at least in terms of the avionics, it's gone.

We also simulate the ability to lock on and fire upon ground-based SAM and AAA. These are called "Hostility Zones" and they shoot back based on a number of criteria you set in our aircraft manager's mission parameters. If you maneuver well, or counter correctly with ECM, you don't get hit. You can even fly above or below the SAM/AAA launch/fire envelopes. If you do get hit, then you're going to take system damage. Again, everything is controllable from our aircraft manager. Basically, it's just a little something to do besides fly.

We started out just wanting a realistic pure aircraft simulation (no combat-like-stuff), but as we progressed we realized that kind of thing HAD to be simulated at least to a certain extent in order to justify all the avionics we wanted to be functional. So again, I would say first and foremost this is a very realistic aircraft simulation, but it is not by any stretch of the imagination a dedicated combat sim. It is simply a very realistic aircraft sim, with some simple combat elements added to round it out.

No, it's definitely not an addon that could be used with other aircraft. The combat features are heavily embedded into code, aircraft model and animation system. Maybe some day:)

I'm as bummed as you that FSX is still a ways off. Believe me, it's very high on the priority list for us, and if we can float above water with FS9 sales, it'll come pretty fast.
