I just received the following newsletter from the Vulcan Trust:

Robert Pleming, Chief Executive, Vulcan to the Sky Trust.

"I have just come off the ‘phone to our Chairman of Trustees, and I was able to confirm that yesterday, the Trust was in receipt of over £57,000 in donations. I am delighted to let you know that the Board of Trustees now believes that the Appeal has sufficient momentum to raise the remaining £75,000 before the end of the month.

As the result, he has agreement of the Board of Trustees that the Trust has sufficient liquidity to continue to trade, and accordingly the notices to our employees have been rescinded.

This is obviously really good news, and is very much down to you, our core supporters, and the desires of the wider public, who have dug deep into their pockets to move us forward once again. We have received tremendous support from thousands of people, and from literally all four corners of the world! On behalf of XH558, thank you so very much!

If you were waiting for it to become clear whether a donation to XH558 would be worthwhile, now is your moment. We have achieved a huge amount in the last few days, and the Board is now confident that we can move forward to a successful 2011. We do need to keep up the donation momentum all the way through to Sunday 31st October, so please take that step and make a donation, join thousands of others, and help ensure we break through our target by Sunday evening.

I'm all for donating for this project but I don't understand that in the days of the internet and the relative cheapness of email as a way of sending messages, why the VTTS trust posts out 40,000 postcards, when that money, somewhere in the region of £8,000 for postage plus a perhaps £2,000 for the print run which could've been used on the project if emails had been sent instead??!

I wish them all the success though. It's been an historic few years for that old girl, I look forward to seeing my next Vulcan display.

centuryseries,

I understand your concerns completely, but the 'Vulcan to the Sky' newsletter is distributed via email!
All it takes is a subscription on their website.
No paper, print and postage wasted here!

Regards, Stuart

I have donated in the past. They are going to have to wait till I get paid on the 1st though. Our daughter dropped a bowl on our kittens head and we had to take it to the vet to be checked out. I missed the display at Farnborough this year because I didn't get to go. I am hoping I get to take a MH-60R to the Paris airshow next year and see it there. The Vulcan is certaintly a flying legend.

Stuart,

For reasons I have no idea about, I didn't receive an email newsletter even though I've donated a fair whack over the years both online and at airshows, instead I received a postcard along with 39,999 other people. (The 40k figure was from this news item posted on 25th October found here: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/134/82/Boost-to-Appeal-but-still-a-way-to-go.html)

I just think they could be saving that little bit extra, they have my email address from my online donations - I never declared that I didn't want to be emailed, it's just plain odd.

Don't you agree?!!!!!! :jump:

Sorry, I thought that you just assumed that I was getting a posted newsletter.
I didn't know that they were actually doing it!
I agree with you in every aspect on this, it's a waste, and a disgrace.
