Vxn8 P3- El Coyote

gray eagle

SOH-CM-2025
This would be a very nice repaint addition for the Lockheed Kawasaki P3 Orion. Noticed the recent fictitious repaint of a C117 with similar markings.

This one below is real deal and would be a great repaint addition for the excellent P3Sim FSX Lockheed/Kawasaki P-3C Orion JMSDF

I'd give it a go if I had some other photos showing from the rear quarter. Cannot see how the orange goes mid fuselage.

I was assigned to Pax River in the early 1970s, and remember VXN-8. In fact, I had some good friends then who were with that squadron. Seems like I remember the squadron had other characters on the nose of their aircraft as well. I think one was the Tasmanian Devil? NC

Yep! Found it!

A short search and I found some above and below shots. Give me a few days.

NC: Flew into PAX many times. Spent 4 years with VX-1 in Key West in the '60s. Was like being on leave the whole time ! Got to fly in P-2s, P-3s, S-2s, H-3s. Even copped a backseat ride in one of VF-101s F-4s. Logged almost 700 hours that tour.

EDIT: A bit more searching and I found a repaint on Flightsim of almost the same paint job, other than the coyote and some lettering - USN Test Pilot School P-3. (this is assuming we've been talking about the KBT P-3) Any need to duplicate ? ?

Coloring was similar. I do not believe, however, that the USNTPS ever had a P-3 in its inventory though; even though there was a repaint for it for Flightsim. I too, had a few rides; most of mine in F-4, T-2, T-38, TA-4J, B-26(Calspan Corp aircraft). All of those at Pax. My last backseat ride was in a VFA-106 F/A-18D at Cecil, around 1987.

Wow Jambii, that is good news!! Will this be the El Coyote that you want to do? I'll keep an eye peeled and see how this comes along. Thank you very much. :mixed-smiley-010:

NC
Found another one of their birds with "Artic Fox" nose art. That must of been a pretty cool outfit to work for.

I flew out of Pax River with OASU, before it became VX-8 and then VXN-8.

Back them we were flying C-121 Connies. I think the 'original' "El Coyote" was a C-121 flying with
Project Magnet.

I flew on the Project Jenny Connies. That was the 1966-1967 time frame.

The only VXN 8 repaint I found at Flightsim is here and it isn't a P3.

I haven't found any prior P3 VXN 8 repaints yet.

EDIT: Found it!!!

It is a repaint for FS2004.

I kinda like the looks of the pics in my first post and since it would be for the FSX version I
would think it might work out better. Within the description, there is a link the basic core P3 (FS2004) required.
Again, I would really appreciate it Jmbii if you could do the El-Coyote for the FSX version

.... I do not believe said:
I looked up the bureau number of the KBT P-3 USNTPS repaint (153443) and it was assigned to the Test Pilot School in PAX in the late '90s. It was used for "Airborne Systems Training and Range Support". My old mind seems to remember seeing it in PAX during one of my trips down there during my P-3 Tech Rep years.

Okay, VXN-8 KBT P-3C "Coyote" - FSX. I have dnld the AC, does there exist a paint kit for the P-3 ? or is I gonna have to "wing" it?

Darn, looks like there are more retired VX and VP naval aviators into flight simming than I thought. I've been into FS since FS2 or 3 and now just finding you guys.:numbness:

Here is direct link to team kbt for the P3 series. I didn't see the paint kit there. I emailed them this AM and hope to get reply soon.

Paint Kit For P3

Jambiii,

Here is the link for the paint kit. It was packed with their FS2004 version. The FSX version is installer version but it looks like all the files are bmps as well.
Hopefully, this paint kit will allow you to make the repaint that will be compatible with the FSX version.

Edit: I did a reinstall of the FSX version done by "rickaroo" to a different directory and from what I can tell there wasn't a paint kit supplied.
So most likely, the paint kit I have linked you with should work.

Downloaded the PK, thanks. After I looked at it I remembered I had the FS2004 P-3 . Found the zip and had the same PK.
Off to the paint booth.

I haven't forgotten. I had started on "El Coyote", honest. Real life took priority the past two months and I didn't have much free time.
Just got through reading the P-3 thread and D/L the FSX P-3. I will complete "El Coyote" soon.

Nice little Video Don :encouragement:, Ive seen VXN-8 RP-3D Orion , (project magnet) 158227 here in Christchurch - years the very aircraft visited 73-75-76-78-80-83-84-86-89-90 and 1994 , also previous VXN-8 Connies WV-2 Co.No. 1265513 and 145925 , 60,61 and 63,67,69 respectively.
