W7 and FS9 confusion

I fear I'm posting in the wrong area and this query has probably been asked and answered many times... my apologies.

Only just got W7 Pro 64 Bit - no upgrade, brand-new rig. I opted for the Pro version being aware of the fact it would allow me to run FS2004 as well as FSX.

Without a hitch installed FS2004 on drive C but not in the Program Folder. The installation folder I created I named 0FS2004

FS9 works fine: I have NOT yet added any 3rd party add-ons of any kind. Just remembered the XP compatibility mode and found it via:
Control Panel - (Category View) - Programs - Programs and Features - Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
Now the Program Compatibility dialogue box pops up.

My question then is: Should I use this option before I begin installing my add-ons?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestion(s) and be so kind to advise me were to post queries of this nature in the future.

You don't need to run FS9 under the XP compatibility mode thingie. FS9 runs just fine without being under XP mode.

Many thanks for linking me to this very useful topic.

Please bear with me, W7 is still trying to do my head in. :kilroy:

1. I read Astoroth's post and found that once I'd arrived at the Compatibility Tab, that my FS9 is already running in WinXP SP3 mode. Can't remember having made those changes but that's OK. On the same Tab the 'Run this program as administrator' was unchecked so I left it unchecked.

2. Dangerousdave your guide at the end of the thread is spot on.

One little query though... despite having left the little box in front of 'Run this program as administrator' unchecked, I found that my FS9 desktop shortcut still bore the blue and yellow Administrator shield thus not knowing whether I was running as Admin or not.
The only way I could get rid of the pesky little shield was by right-clicking the FS9 shortcut and selecting - yes, you guessed it: Create shortcut.
Deleting the original Shortcut left me with the new one, no more shield and best of all it works. I am just wondering if there is a saner, more proper way of doing this as I find that quite a number of my Shortcuts have the little shield... some do some don't and frankly I haven't got a clue how they got there.

Thanks for your patience Gentlemen :guinness::guinness::guinness:
