Wait or install now?

I'm ready to make the jump to FS2024, but see that they're getting ready to release an update either tomorrow or Thursday. I'm now thinking I should wait until after that update is pushed before installing in case there's a need to reinstall from scratch after the update...
If I wait and the update isn't pushed until Thursday, I likely won't be able to install until this coming Sunday, as I'll be out of town.

Normally there is no need to install from scratch after an update. But what I always do with new software that I want to install, knowing that there is an update on the way, I wait until a couple of days after the update.

At the very least, you'll be able to read about what the update has brought here.

Growing older, I'm becoming more prudent...

I've gone thru updates, it happens as the sim loads. For the sim every day is a new day as it's cloud based. I have issues with cloud stuff, but it is what it is and probably the only way to deliver the product they have. There is no way to avoid the update. Good, bad or indifferent.

Does it even matter anymore since the updates are done to the server side?

The install is quick compared to 2020. But if you do not have fast Internet that can handle lots of streaming data, don't even think about it.

I have an unlimited data w. 1.2Gb/s plan with Xfinity. Install went great, and so far the streaming is working fine. However, there were times this evening where my fps performance would suddenly drop way down. Not sure what's causing that...

Dave, it may be the Rolling Cache, which is 16 GB by default. I upped mine to 30 GB, no problems.

I'm going to sound like a dummy here, but where do I find the Rolling Cache settings in WIN11? I knew in WIN7, but since then haven't played with it, and can't find much of those settings anymore.

"Did upping the RC have any positive results performance/stutter wise?"

Not really, especially around the area I create my small airfields for. About the only thing I might get is a small hesitation when Rolling Cache might load. I am getting remarkable fps with everything on Ultra, better than MDFS 2020.

I'm not getting any discernable stutters or hesitations in the areas I have flown, so far. I do not have any add-on sceneries, beyond the ones from the 2020MP updates brought in so far, yet, so that may change soon when I start adding them.

Rolling cache is an FS2024 thing, not Windows. (Different cache.) It's in the data section in 2024 settings.

It doesn't really affect performance, unless you have slow Internet. It just keeps the most recent data stored locally, so that it doesn't have to be re-streamed every time. If you fly in the same area a lot, it'll stream data a lot less and pull from the rolling cache instead.
