Want a P-47 Thunderbolt

I've done some research on my own but the various claims and reviews of P-47s (and otherr WW II aircraft) leave me confused. I don't mind spending money on a good sim but I want the most for my money. My idea of a good sim is the F8 Sabre, the Project Sierra Hotel T-37. I want all the right switches, and guages and I want them to work the right way. I also like it sound the way it's supposed to sound. Obviously flight dynamics should be as authentic as possible. Which ones would you kind folks at the forum recommend.

I have the Donation ware P-47D and like it. This weekend I will be getting the Wings of Power II: Fighters of World War 2 box set....comes with the P-51D, P-47D, Spit, Bf 109, and Zero). I have heard that the WOP P-47 is a true work of art and simply the finest flight modeling going. I am looking forward to flying it.

As far as freeware sounds.....the P-47 sound pack by Lawdog3260 is amazing!

I highly recommend anything designed and developed by Scott Gentile and his team at A2A (Shockwave Simulations). This includes their P47 which is a wonderful and totally accurate reproduction of the actual airplane.

I have the WWII Fighters pack. You'll be pleased! :jump:

P.S. Make sure you get the patch for the P-47 on their website. That way you can remove the rocket tubes if you like.

Gnoopy made a P-47 a while back. I still fly it once in a while

One of the best freeware WWII fighters IMHO. Get the latest version made about a year or two ago here or at Avsim. Then hunt down also at SOH some of the quite old paints - some for the original CSF2 model - but fit the latest model and look great. :applause:

Wings of Power / A2A is definately the way to go. You want accuracy, you'll not be dissapointed, right down to the releasable drop tanks. I have their bombers series, as well as the P-47 and P-51D/H all are superb and you'll not be wasting your money. :)

Anyone know what that edit at the bottom of my last post is all about? Rob hasn't been on the forum since November, and this edit was apparently made in 2005!

Cheers mate, all very spooky! :d

I obviously missed the donatin ware offerings over the holidays and regret that very much. I am also considering the A2A pack and am debating between the WWII fighters and the Thunderbolt package. I have also seen some screen shots of the Aeroplane Heaven P-47 and it looks pretty good as well. I'm mainly interested in the D-20 or D-25 series of P-47. Let me know how you like the A2A WWII fighters.

Thanks for the reply.

I was bit hacked off as I bought the Wing of Power P-51D standalone package rather than WWII fighters. The problems has been that there's some really nice paint schemes for the WWII Fighters version that won't work with my version as the texture mapping is not the same, despite being produced by Shockwave at around the same time!

I only have the standalone WoP P-47 package so can't comment too much about the WWII Fighters package, but you may find the same issue.

Hi, Tom!

Thanks for that!
Just purchased the A2A Jug and was wondering how to get rid of these ugly air brakes...

This girl is definately a pig of a plane and seems to perform the initial climb the way a solid brick wall would do! Having spent lots of hours in several Spitfires and Mustangs (and some freeware Jugs as well...), it will take some different skills to get her up and going!

Cheers,
Markus.

The update is positively a must have!
Quoting from the A2A site:
Wings of Power P47 "Thunderbolt" Update 1.1 changes
- Rockets can now be removed via in-game icon. When removing the rockets, the player should also remove the rocket payloads in game for accurate weights.
- The flight model has been modified to allow the pilot to accomplish three-point takeoffs and landings without the stall warning being activated.
- Engine run up can be accomplished at 2000 rpm with brakes set without any tendency to nose over, while retaining the aircraft's realistic ability to taxi at 900 rpm due to the high torque of the engine
- Landing strut extension calibrated to actual P47 extension at various weights
- Internal gear extension and retraction sound re-designed with hydraulics calibrated in stereo to both left and right gear

That stall warning on take-off roll was quite annoying, but now it's eliminated! :applause:

Phew - this clunk is really to be flown by the book... :faint:

Cheers,
Markus.

Gnoopy's Jug is quite good. And the money for the D-ware one goes to a good cause, keeping this site going.

And the series of Jugs by K. Malinowski for CFS2 works in FS2004. The series can be found on Simviation.com. Do a search for P-47, you will be able to find them easily. 4 air craft downloads and an update download. 10 Jugs in all. There are a ton of paints for these planes.

I did get an error message concernign the CFO gauge, but that did not prevent the plane from loading and flying just fine.
