Woke up this morning to the sound of the downstairs smoke detector going off......no fire, but water was dripping from it. We have a plumping leak and need to find it. The landlord is on his way to check it out. I will be busy the next few days or more working to find this plumping leak and get it fixed....which will include removing at least one bathroom vanity, some drywall...and may include having to tear out pretty much the entire 2nd floor bathroom.

I won't be around much during this time....just wanted you all to know that I am gone for a reason other than being mad, or upset, or disgusted.

Oh, you're going to be all three pretty soon. Been there, you have my sympathies. Hope you have full facilities in another bath.

Oh the horror. While the fam was away the house sitter phoned one day to say there was water dripping from the second floor to the kitchen and bathroom with a big water bulge hanging from the ceiling. As we were a week from getting home I told him where to shut off the water and hoped. We returned to find mold had set in and the kitchen floor and walls ruined. Months later after mold abatement and removal, tearing everything out of the kitchen to the walls for a complete wall and floor replacement, a long drying time with industrial dehumidifiers and fans screaming for a week and finally rebuilding everything we are starting to feel back to normal. I expect your quick notice of the problem will head off any mold issue and severe water damage and hopefully the leak is easy to fix. Remember to buy some long Tees to hide the crack :icon_lol:

When we have the wall open to fix the pipe, I plan on spraying some bleach onto the exposed drywall and stuff....to hopefully cut down on the mold issue. Will also stick my hand up into the opening that the hard wired smoke detector normally covers and spray bleach into/onto everything in that area I can reach as well. Really don't want this to become a huge job.....but what I want and what will be will most likely be two different things.

Well, I guess I won't be doing the cleaning and water changes on the two small fish tanks tonight.

OBIO you have my sympathy

As Hurricane 91 said plumbing has to be the worst thing known to man.
I used to do my own but never again.Just when you think you got a leak fixed it starts leaking again. From now on no matter how small the job (and I'am far from rich)I'll pay a plumber to do it, then I'll check it a hundered times after that.
It's a phobia with me,NEVER EVER do it your self unless your a guy like you who can do it if you have too.
Good luck my friend.

Good luck with that Obi. Plumbing leaks are a swine. - straightforward, but normally messy!

Meanwhile, we pulled of some wall panelling last weekend and discovered.....termites!
