Water color is way off

Let me start with a thank you to Paul J for all his help and Steve for his Scenery Fixer, really love DX10 will not go back. Now, what happened to the water color? It is too blue and bright compared to DX9. I have seen screen shots of some awesome looking water, how?

I am using REX 4, ASN and Scenery Fixer. I have read some posts about using FSWC textures, will that work with what I have?

Ric

FSWC only modifies the water shader, making it compatible with any set of replacement textures (e.g. from FEX or REX). Currently there is only a single DX10 preset is available with FSWC Lite. So, yes, it should work.

Hi Ric: - yes, I hear you! I would go out on a limb and suggest that the REX water is the problem, as AS 2012 textures (Inland Blue/Inland Brown - both dulled down and darkened slighty) ("Frequency for waves) are what I use, limiting REX to clouds only. Because 90% of my flying is the West Coast, US of A, I use Orbx for the land, with FSDT/FlightBeam major airports.

I have used REX for water, and set Inland Blue as "Deep Blue Eyes", Inland Brown as "Deep Muddy Brown", and then work on the Plankton, Saturation, Brightness, Contrast with both. You can turn them as dark as you like, you can make the blue turn into a green... lots of options. There is not much to choose between them (REX and AS). The pics are my general water, weather influenced, with some REX blue/brown pics in the two folders. One can certainly get rid of the color, but I did have more trouble with REX water than AS water - more so the wave type. I have used both FSWC: the Lite version has only one DX10 texture, and the full version has none. I like neither!

My weather right now is controlled by ASN (ocasionaly FS Global Real Weather), AS2012 water textures, with REX Ess OD sky textures.

Hope this has been useful for you: :encouragement:

All the Best,

pj

Problem is that I only have REX 4 and ASN.

Also a problem is REX 4 (AFAIK) doesn't allow changing water texture saturation.

and REX4 (Texture Direct) (I assume) doesn't have the ability to modify any of the texture properties? Man - that sucks! I have to go and read what the site says, Ric. I have too many weather programs (sigh).

I'll be back.

Not only can't you modify or change wave animation, you can't disable wave animation or texture as far as I know. What do you think about me uninstalling REX 4 Direct Texture and re installing REX ESS OD?

In REX4 Texture Direct, you *can* select a texture that doesn't include animation. You have to read the description in the RH panel when you view a texture to see it.

For instance, "Bright - Clear Coral" says "... do not contain wave patterns ...". However - I do think you're stuck with having to use a wave animation. I use "Subtle and focused".

Apologies if I keep posting this pic ... just to show what water in DX10 *can* look like (with a bit of help from ORBX):

BTW - I didn't remove RWX4/OD when I installed Texture Direct, so (theoretically) I can still change the textures using that as well - but being careful not to overwrite TD cloud textures (which are better).

Adam.

Thanks. I picked "Dark - Default" and "Subtle and Focused". Looks much better.

Any chance of a screenshot of Dark, Default, subtle and focused please, I am trying different rex 4 water settings but I'm still not happy with what I have.

OK ... here you go ....

Scenario 1: 5,200ft : Dark-default, subtle & focused:

Scenario 1: 5,200ft : Medium-clear-pronounced, photoreal:

Scenario 2: 747ft : Dark-default, subtle & focused:

Note that your choice of "Dark-default" is a texture with waves already "burned in".

The wave animations look better/worse at different heights. "Photoreal" looks great low down, but auto-repeats a bit higher up, whilst "Subtle & focussed" looks great high up, but a bit too"chunky" for my liking when low down.

Adam.

Yes I know what your saying, different altitudes and different viewing angles all seem to make it look great or awfull no single one looks great at all heights / angles. Nice screenshots though, thanks for posting them up.

Thanks for the tip Rockstar,I downloaded, saved original files and installed the ones you recommended.
That's the best DX10 water I've managed to see on my system so far..

Yeah - good site: I downloaded the Caribbean scenery's as well, and that fired up a look at GEX Caribbean and Central America.....

Great!
Here is a quick video with NI LOD Bias at On, -1.0000, Allow I like a little shimmer (Eye of the beholder)!

Some like low reflections and some like high reflections...all adjustable in Steve's Fixer...YEAH!!!

Happy flying,

Greg
