Water?

What is the best water for fs9? I have been searching and gotten allot of different files, just want an opinion from the group.

That's a difficult question to answer for somebody else. I have two PCs one with a Nvidia card and the other with a ATI card. When I copied my water form my old PC to the new one, it looked completely different. It seems the same water-sets looks quite different on different computers.

Some water-sets look very natural in my area (dull grey North Sea water) while other sets look very nice in tropical areas.

Personally I have Silver Wings installed which has nice ground and water textures in general. So this was a good start. After that I have mixed the contents of all available water sets until I had something I really liked. I haven't got a clue from what set the textures come and I'm pretty sure I can never reproduce it again. But isn't that part of the fun of this game; playing with settings and textures and try to make your the FS9 the best looking sim around?

Cheers,
Huub

I created some water textures that went in after a reinstall. No other water enhancements and they look the most convincing to me. I've tried many. I recreated 2 bitmaps that seem to deal with rivers and inland lakes. Depending on the time and season, they are darker or lighter, and I've got a nice blend of green and blue. If you have no other enhancements and would like to try them, email me and I'll be glad to send them to you.

as Mr Huub says, it all depends on your rig, and where you live that dictate how you, personally would like to 'see' the water.

If you're looking for a few sets to start with, then the ones by Bill Lyons (in the 'Silverwings' package) and those by Peter Wilding are a good choice....but someone else is bound to suggest different, based on what they see on their rig.

this is not meant to be a criticism of anyone, its' just how it is,its the same with clouds and sky,
each combination of computer and graphics card will produce a slightly different variation on the final picture.

hope this helps

I once asked the same question after a really beautiful screen shot was posted and got the same answer, 'don't really know'. Seems most folks, myself included, patch-quilted whatever we like best.
I will say that I have found only two or three ocean height fields out there that don't have that repeating wave pattern or too much pulsing, ones that do a good job of hiding that un-realistic effect. I will try to ID them. Beyond that I save a complete current texture folder in case I mess things up. And besides those already mentioned I think vater.zip, the pwover8.zip (and others), and r_watero.zip are ones I think I have stayed with over the years. There are many more.

If you want, I can send you a water pack I´m working on. Have "beta tested" it for some time now and every betatester seems happy so far. It includes a lot of choises, 7 diffrent waves, 3 watersets, several inlandtextures. Diffrent environments. Clouds, weather themes.

Cheers!

For those of you that want to test my waterset, you can download the betaset here.

Just to clear everything. I take no credit for these textures. I have just put them together.
I have included a textfile how to use them and what you need to backup first. READ IT!!!

ENJOY!!! :wavey:

Please give me feedback on this pack. mail me at info@rbdesign.se
