We Need More Rare Exotics For FS9

Yeah...love those Cold War aircraft.
Fast-moving times, amazing concepts every other month.
Valkyrie, Vigilante...we used to fill up the back of the homework notebook with our dream aircraft.
Some of our doodles looked pretty much like this one!

XF-108 Rapier for FS9 by Paul Clawson

Flyboy208;
There is a Rapier available for FS9, made by Paul Clawson. I found it on Flightsim.com. There are 3 files for the Rapier, The model itself, and update for the plane by Paul Clawson. This update has something to do with FS9 closing when the Rapier hits Mach 1. Finally, the is an update by Bob Chicilo, his update includes a new air file, afterburner effects, as well as a new panel.

The files at flightsim.com are:
XF108.zip
108updt.zip
xf108upd.zip

I've never downloaded it before, so I have no idea what's it's like to fly. If you do download it, let us know how it flies.

Cheers :ernae:

I downloaded, installed, updated Paul's XF-108. Clearly among some of his earlier work..the quality does not compare to his more recent models. The VC is very very very very basic and very sparce. Even with the updates by Bob, the plane has a very strong tendency to go nose up and require about 50% forward stick to fly level. The control input is super twitchy and sensitive.

Not meaning to be demeaning of Paul's work or Bob's work...both guys have done a ton of good work for the simming community...this plane is best left on Flightsim.com. Overall, the look of the plane is similar to a late 80s arcade game, flight dynamics are just too unflyable.

Maybe someone can do their impression of the missing fighter people have speculated about for years, the F-19. Some of the artistic impressions looked really good, like this Revell kit:
