Weird lock-ups in MAW?

Never seen this one before; it happens only with MAW, as far as I can tell. Everything loads correctly, I select my aircraft and location, etc, etc, and fly off in QC, so no spawns or anything else. And suddenly it locks solid, sound cuts out - and then I get alternate +/- 3-4 second bursts of sound, but no movement. The only way out as a rule is the escape button, although on occasion it CTDs. I've tried deleting the contents of the application data folder and running Config, to no avail. I've also tried replacing the .DLLs and so on with those from another install that runs correctly. No joy. It doesn't matter which aircraft I'm using, or which airfield, as far as I can tell.

Anybody got any ideas before I reinstall the whole lot and spend the weekend sorting out the mess?
 
Yes,
There ia a "Bug" in MAW, I found in some positions it will LOCK up and crash..
Set your Scenery sliders at 3, and the terrians sliders at 3 and it should run fine..
Try this..
 
Interesting... I have got them at 5 for once to take some screenies. Usually they are indeed at 3. Thanks - off to see!
 
Yes.. sometimes in MAW you have to set the sliders at 3..
But you still get the scenery levels from 5.
It is crazy..
Once you do this MAW works fine..
Learned this building the Poliesti missions set..
Nearly threw my computer out the window..LOL.
Then it all came together..
Thank God..
