EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE ARE KNOWN TO GENERATE TSUNAMIS.
IF A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THE WAVES WILL FIRST REACH
ADAK ALASKA AT 812 PM AKDT ON JUNE 23.
ESTIMATED TSUNAMI ARRIVAL TIMES AND MAPS ALONG WITH SAFETY RULES
AND OTHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEB SITE

TSUNAMIS CAN BE DANGEROUS WAVES THAT ARE NOT SURVIVABLE. WAVE

The notice was generated at 23:25 my time and posted it about 17 minutes later which is the lag from when I receive the email and my phone checks for it.

Add another 25 minutes on that and now it is way too freaking late for some people. I hope they don't consider that an early warning system.
 
Early warning system? At that rate I'd rather not know.

Let me rephrase that. After seeing the devastation of Fukushima, I DO want to know these things. But at the current level of technology that's available for things like this, they need to crap or get off the can, and stop playing with peoples lives!!

As it turns out, the AK tsunami warnining was originated in Fairbanks. Not too much chance of tsunamis up there. Another possibility is the fact that the emergency/amber/etc. alert systems, at least here in AK, operate using what appears to be 50's - 60's technology. Hell, locally produced commercials are higher tech. And THEY have plywood cows!
