What config can be recommendet ?

Like ROOSTER, I also tried to re-configure the settings for CFS3 and OFF P2,
because my gameflow often stutters.
Right now, it flows better, as I have disabled several things. But to be honest, I don't know, which one did it.
I don't know, what Vertex buffers, Index buffers or High resolution Z-buffers are and what they do. So I thought, may be some of the OFF Team can perhaps tell, what could or should be disabled, to get a better gameflow performance; and which ones NOT to touch. :help:

Thanks in advance; Olham

PS: the pics below do NOT show my momentary settings! Just added them to show, were I tried to make changes.

This was posted a long time ago. It is for Nvidia graphics cards. ATI settings are different. I have those settings also (somewhere).

Smooth Frame Rates in OFF/CFS3

To do these tweaks you need to open the OFF Config app. cfs3config found in your CFSWW1 Over
FlandersFields folder.

Firstly the must do's:

Recommended Override settings:

Navigate via:

File, Custom Settings, Window, Overrides.

Select:

Disable Intro Movie
High Resolution Z buffer (deselect Dual Pass Render)
Terrain Detail Texture
Disable Validate Device

Secondly the Frame Rate tweaks:

Recommended Override settings that may improve FPS and smoothness:

Navigate via:

File, Custom Settings, Window, Texture Info.

Composite Terrain Texture Usage – RenderTarget
Composite Terrain Texture Pool - Managed
Composite Aircraft Texture Usage - RenderTarget
Composite Aircraft Texture Pool - Managed

Finally these may offer additional smoothness:

Navigate via:

File, Custom Settings, Window, Overrides.

Select:

Disable Write-Only Vertex Buffers
Disable Write-Only Index Buffers

These tweaks should give you very good and smooth frames and works on both ATI (9800 pro) and Nvidia (7800 GT SLI) and are mentioned in the OFF read.me

As with all these things YMMV

Hi, CJ

What is this descrition below your "CJ" - is it for ATI ? Or are you still searching? Cause, mine is ATI Radeon.

Thanks. Olham

Those settings are for Nvidia cards. I have the ATI settings somewhere. I'll find them and post them here. I've got them on a backup disk.

These are the settings that I used with my X1950. The only thing that I didn't have checked was "Disable intro movie". You can check that if you want. I've got a page from the forum before the "Great Crash" that discusses the subject. PM me your email addy and I'll send it to you.

I am super curious about the settings above, and please do not take my comments as anything but.

I have an old(er) nVidia Quadro 4500 512 MB vRAM, a monster in its time but certainly not the speed demon that today's cards are for gaming. Given the changes going on in the industry, and the fact that a wide range of cards going back years will be used by people for OFF, can 1 set of settings, as presented above, be applicable to ALL nVidia cards? Or ATI for that matter?

What is specific about these settings to the card manufacturer themselves, rather than the model of card? The Drivers?

I will defer to those more knowledgeable on the inner workings of GPU's, of which I know just enough to be dangerous.

At the time that WM posted these settings I was using a 6600GT and they seemed to work well. I haven't heard of very many people using a Quadro. Isn't that a workstation card designed for CAD and such?
Like I mentioned before, I have a page from the pre crash forum on the subject. It's HTML so I can't post it, however, I can email it to you.
