What is it with IObits stuff?

I don't know if it's just me or my older system and 128 ATI vid card, but after finishing up my complete reinstall of FS9 I thought it would be a good idea to do a game defrag on FS9 which I have done before with no ill effects, using the Game Booster feature .(My last problem was running I Obits Smart Defrag for the whole system.)
So I did a defrag of fs9 and found around 90 files that should be defragged. I defragged and then the textures wouldn't load and all my icons on the desktop dissapeared. I had to reboot a couple times ,run FS9 in msconfig before every thing started working normally again.
Next, I used Game Booster to run the sim but shut down all the backround programs using the advanced function and the System Booster part of Game booster under the advanced function. In other words I did every thing that Game Booster can do.
MISTAKE ! When I ran FS9 I got the same view switching with out me doing anything. It would go from panel to tower to external over and over with out me doing anything.
At this point I thought if I just shut down Game Booster everything would go back to normal. Wrong! I tried to run the sim without shutting anything down and in msconfig but same thing, I thought well I did it again and I've had it after a months work of getting everything back.
Then I decided to do a system restore before throwing in the towel for good and that worked.
I tried using just the Basic Game Booster settings,(I know I'am a glutton for pinishment) and it ran fine. I'll never use the advanced settins again on Game Booster.
It takes a special person to be a flight simmer and I don't think I'am that person.I'am not touching any flight sims until ,when I even look at the icons on my desktop I get a case of the nerves. This isn't a relaxing hobby it's a nitemare when months if not years of work can be undone by the push of a wrong button.
I have all my flight sims backed up on my external HD now but they still make me nervious.
Just thought I'd share about being careful what you do.
Whats strange is even with my older system (Dell Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8 GHZ with 1.5 RDRAM FS9 runs really good with around 20 FPS., Very little jerking or pausing with all sliders except ground detail maxed.
I know I need a new computer,(even have a Navida 256 card on standby when this one goes belly up) I just can't afford one right now when this one runs everything fairly good.
Thanks for reading this if you made it through my problems.

I use IO Bit as my main cleanup tool. It's available for about $12 and I've been happy with it but never touched the game booster. I have Ultimate Defrag and that puts files that I rarely use like all my backup and old time radio stuff on the inside of the hard drive and all the good stuff like flight sim on the outside. It also places all the files together in the proper folders for faster accessing. I've been real happy with it. A lot of flightsim people like O&O defrag. It's just a matter of using the correct tools for the job. With what I have there's no need for anything extra like game booster.

kinda afraid

After using the freeware Smart defrag and having my install of FS9 go wacko I'am afraid of any of IObits stuff. Maybe the pay version is ok but all my sims run ok with just the Windows defrag utility. The only time I would use the game defrag app of Game Booster is if I had to do a complete reinstall ,like I just did.
With an older system like mine I have to shut down backround programs or the sim gradually looses it's textures.I have always used msconfig but just using the basic function of Game Booster seems to work too and is a bit faster than doing a clean boot with msconfig.
Hopefully when the day comes I can get a new faster computer with high end vidio card and more memeroy I can forget about shutting down backround programs.

forgot to mention

I forgot to mention that FS9 is the only sim I really have to shut down backround programs with. CFS1, CFS2,CFS3, IL2, IL2 Forgotton Battles and Third Wires First Eagles seem to run ok with out shutting down stuff, although CFS3 recommends useing msconfig to run it and it does load much faster using that or Game Booster.

Your processer isn't that bad. I also have a p4 2.8 gig, It's a duo but has only been using 1 core for fs9. However I also have more ram and a better video card. That doesn't really cost a lot. Just another gig of ram and maybe a 9800 GT 1 gig (or even 512 meg) video card. Tigerdirect or some place like that. I think there would be a huge difference.
