What type of chair do you have?

Ok,

I need to buy a new chair for my flight sim setup. I have neck problems that plague me, and a stationary chair is not helping.

So I did my research, and ordered what looked like what I wanted. But, after a few days, I called to check on the order status. I was told they wouldn't have it in stock for 60 days.

I have not canceled the order yet; leastwise until I find a model similar to it, and can get the chair without such a lengthy wait.

So, before I go though any more searching, I thought I would ask you folks:

What do you use for a flight simming chair?

Thanks.

Pontiac GP power Leather bucket set I got from Ebay. Power works good and I think I paid $150.00 including shipping. Very comfortable. The dealer had more so if really interested I can give you the info - but would have to fine it first.

I use the same office chair (manager style, tilt/revolve, manual height setting, no gas lift) that I have used since I bought it new over 14 years ago. I must admit I too have been looking for a new one recently as the seat foam in this one has gone very flat now which isn't helped by the fact I am now stuck at home 24/7 and spend all my time when I am not in bed sitting in it! I actually had to add a loose cushion to help out but that has also gone 'flat' after about 12 months use.

The biggest problem is the frightening cost of new, good quality, office chairs. When you are stuck on a meagre disability pension every purchase has to be justified...lol. The fabric covering (hessian type weave) is still as good as the day it was bought (despite having cats that think they have permission to use it as a scratching post) so I am also looking at just buying some seating foam and replacing that but I can't even find good quality seating foam locally. :frown:

I like the idea of a power seat, and the price looks ok, but I do need the seat to adjust, so it gives my lower back and neck support.

I agree about the outrageous costs of new chairs. As for justifying purchases, I also concur; but my neck pain is overriding reasonable justification! I do have some good seat foam, but not sure I want to attempt replacing what is currently on my seat.

Tako, I can understand that, but I also have to sleep in mine as I'd drown in me own juice if I laid down, (lungs and heart are knackered):faint:

The best advice I can give you Navychief is to afford the best you can get, your'e the one who has to be comfortable in it. Certainly try Ebay, but go for the expensive ones as the cheapo stuff doesn't last long. If necessary, check with an office supplier as to what type of executive chairs they can supply.

I've got an old broken office chair. One of these days when I lean back in it I'm gonna end up on the floor :D

I have two awful ones that I would trade for a comfortable one in a heartbeat.

I took a trip to my local OfficeMax/OfficeDepot and tried on a couple that they had in stock. Ended up with a comfortable one that has a high back and an ergonomic center-piece.

Cost about $99.00 and has thus far lasted 9 years.

I was at an IBM facility in North Carolina and they had the most comfortable-est chair I've ever sat in....The Edge by Steelcase. Like sitting in the perfect seat at your favorite activity !! Cost was $1,000.00 ! :faint: Too much for my wallet, but it's okay to dream.

It's kinda like looking at a new truck.....my wife says I can look at it, touch it, sit in it, but I can't buy it !!!

You might go to a well supplied drafting store. They have a much better selection than a Staples or Office Max type store. That's where I bought mine. If they don't have in stock what you're looking for,...they can order it for you.

I have a Frankenstein chair....resurrected from body parts of 3 or 4 deceased chairs. The swivel base and casters are from a cheap Walmart student task chair, the seat is from a chair that my wife's aunt gave us. The back is from a chair that I really loved...until Spud (the dog in my avatar) came running into the office and threw his entire 50 pound body into my chest as I was leaning back a bit watching my fish swim....that sudden impact caused the base of chair and the seat to break apart and for me and the dog to end up in a pile on the floor with stunned looks on our faces.

Instead of going out and buying a new chair, I grabbed a drill, some drill bits, some extra foam, a box of staples for my industrial staple driver....I took the best bits and pieces from all the broken chairs and constructed the most comfortable chair on the face of the planet. Sure, it is a bit mix-matched with a "leather" seat and a cloth back.....but when sitting in the chair, the only thing I notice is how perfectly comfortable the chair is.

My wife said that I really need to buy a new chair, but I know that I will never find another chair that is as perfectly suited for me as this one.

Chief, take a look at this seat.....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

These are comfortable and you can set it up for your sim pit. I had 2 Recaros in my 79 Formula FB, and they were the most comfortable seat I've ever ridden in.

Gary, when I was younger, I would have gone for that seat right away. My stepson had a VW with those types of seats, and it always caused my neck to have problems. But if I was younger...........!

They used to have one that had an added adjustment for the seat back. It was in 2 sections and you could adjust it so you sat in a more natural position. Expensive but nice to ride in. Yje set I had had a lumbar pad you could insert behind the back cusion and head rest tilted forward.

Found their web site finally.....

And the Orthopedic seat.... http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=3696&region=3&L=2

Someday I'll have another set for my 66GTO.
