What Works Well with Rhumbaflappy's Mesh?

Pardon me gentlemen if I seem out-of-touch. I devoted an install just for all of the new scenery coming out that works with Rumba's mesh some time ago. But then I got busy and failed to keep up with all the new scenery that has been made to work well with it, you know, so that you don't end up with floating airfields. I have saved a few forum entries on the subject, but I thought it would be much easier on me if someone just posted a scenery.cfg file from an install they have had good success with. I would ask for a complete listing of scenery that works with it but that might be asking a bit too much.

And thanks in advance to all who help me! :ernae:

Really? Nobody? Not even you Daddy Dirt? Bear? Where all my friends be? Is it because the economy has forced me to stop using deodorant? Surely someone had the same idea as me and has a dedicated install for Rhumbas mesh. :toilet:

I'm no too concerned about the theater. Is there one particular theater that has been covered well by the scenery builders? Last time I got really involved in getting the mesh to work right I tried both the Pacific and European. After failing to get it to look right I decided to let it alone and give those involved in scenery building time to catch up in regards to building with the new mesh in mind. I guess I just want to know if anybody is using the new mesh exclusively in any theater, and if so, what scenery are they using.

Erufle,

beginning next week I am going to adapt all my airfields in Europe and the Medeterranean Theatres of Operation to Rhumba' s new mesh. But we are talking here about more than 300 airfields I have made so far and that will take some time. And it is not only the elevation we are talking about but at least 40 airfields close to the coastline have to be moved with all the gsl-work involved.

If you are desperate my Barbarossa airfields are up to Rhumba`s specs (but there is a glitch in the airbases.dat - file.

Cheers

Achim

Erufle, would you like a ground2k tutorial?
you are welcome to join the great work of filling Rhumba-world.

I have a clean install of Rhumba mesh ready for filling,
making scenery is just like painting landscapes ,
only better
cos you can go flying around in your painting.

Hi Achim!

I can identify Achim and wish you all the best!

Its a lot of work. I have been slowly but surely adapting all of my pre-rhumba airfields for quite a while. I finally resigned myself to the reality that in many if not most cases it is just as easy to simply make a whole new airfield as it is to "adapt" an old one to fit. For me the kicker I am sure you will appreciate as others might not is this: nearly every single one of mine is located on a coast line! :isadizzy:

Cheers,
MR

Oh, well, it'll give ya some thing to do!

As you already know, (just posting for minutiae for others)
That's because in the Pacific theater, the Allies usually took over captured IJAAF and IJNAF bases which for supply purposes were on the coasts in an island hoping war. Just made sense for the Allies to rebuild along the coasts for supply purposes.......unlike Europe which was a continental versus an island-hoping war.

Exactly.

The Marianas airfields I have been working on recently are a very different breed of airfield. All of the islands had well developed infrastructures- roads, railways even canals and they were under cultivation- so relatively flat and jungle free and in addition they all dropped off precipitously at the coasts. So all airfields are well inland not immediately adjacent to any shorelines.

That's one apple I don't want to bite into because its a project that I'll never finish.

Sounds like I'll need too be a lot more patient and just stick to other meshes for now. I will keep an eye out and add sceneries to a new folder when they say they are compatable with Rhumba's mesh. Then I could at least create a few missions. I just thought I could get a jump start in doing just that if I asked. Achim, I want all of you scenery guys to know how much I appreciate your work. I started on one big airbase last year and still have not finished it. I'll stick to making language packs. Thanks for your replies!!! :wavey:

You re right there erufle,
I can't see the Rhumba world project being finished
(Works of art seldom are , they are usually abandoned)
unless SdC comes to our aid with his line drawing algorithm.
Its so MASSIVE, you will forgive me for attempting to recruit you.
Check out what Jean Bomber has been up to in the Med, and UncleTgt has been at work in the Andamans.

Thanks Simonu

to talk about our exotic tests
The Uncle Tg's Andamans islands and Afnor I (Gibraltar Ceuta Oran etc...) sceneries have been built to be compatible with the Rhumba's (the real world) mesh adding also the recent Chris's marianas and some previous projects.
The last desert scenery was made to add coastlines and to be compatible with them and they are also good for Achim to upgrade his old airbases already done along the coasts ,this scenery will need to be enhanced by a new water and desert land classes and some port sceneries.
That gives ,to complete the interesting WWII place to be done, a massive sum of project to launch :bump: and so there is no place for the boredom :kilroy::sleep: .
