What's up with Flightsim.com and FS Pilot Shop??

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
Earlier this afternoon I attempted to download a repaint from Flightsim.com, and got a message indicating the server at exceeded the bandwidth limit and to come back later.

Now I'm attempting to download a product I purchased a FS PilotShop, and it is taking forever. I started an hour ago and still have 1 hr and 26 minutes to go, and this is on a high speed cable.

I don't get it. Anyone else experiencing slow times with either site??

Apparently there was some big X-Plane scenery file(s) added to their library the other day that are being grabbed by enough folks that the server is hollering "Uncle". It ought to clear up in a few days.

I just now tried to d/l a "Bock's Car" B-29 repaint and like you I got the "free server bandwidth exceeded" prompt. I suppose paid membership (at $30 a year, not bad really) does have its privileges. Haven't bought payware from FS Pilot Shop often enough to notice slowness as a chronic problem.

Not sure if the paid membership would improve the situation, especially with FSPilot Shop.

I shop around for bargains, and noticed they had the Nemeth Huey for $17.00 which is better than 50% of other sites.

I'm sure I can wait a few days to download my purchase but as always I'd like it now so I can install and fly this evening.

If anyone else is attempting to download a purchase this evening, they are likely experiencing the same. Hard to run a business this way. :frown-new:

Yep...I'm waiting for the storm to blow by to download my last purchase. I was making 35k on their server. Looks like they're getting hammered.

I was eyeballing the X-Plane files, but they are all in single large files that It just wouldn't be worth the time unless I had a paid membership to get what I want.

Had the same earlier today trying to download a paint to help figure out someones issue. Ended up buying a 1 year membership to get it downloaded. $30 donation but for a good cause. Got the download right away though, too small to assess speed.

Yep, same here. :heart-borken:

I purchased [2] FSGenesis products for FSX on Thursday evening, got an initial d/l speed of about 112 KB/sec., then it plummeted to about 1-2 KB/sec. in just a few sec.

I sent an e-mail to Tech support ----->>> No response from them yet today either!

It sez I got 19 more d/l attempts..... tick-tock !!!!! :sheep:

A Paid membership to download FREEWARE? I have a problem with this. I rarely go there now because of this.
Milton, They should let all developers have a membership at least. They are making money on the FREEWARE that was uploaded there.

It took over 3 hours to download a 396 Mb product from FSPilotShop, and this is over a cable modem.

It caused me some concern that there was a problem on my end, but after checking everything I concluded it was on their end. After my product downloaded, I was able to download some repaints on other servers without any problem.

I created a Support Ticket and appraised them of the time frame with the download. They responded this morning that they are having IMMENSE traffic and the problem should subside in time.

Still, a real hassle when you've paid for a product and cannot download it within a reasonable time frame.:frown-new:

You're not the only one! I know, in principle, it is no different from Ickie asking for donations to keep the Outhouse running but in practice it is fundamentally different; if they were upfront and made it clear that they needed funds to sort the problem, I'd have no issues stumping up - just a little twitchy because I don't like being railroaded into making choices. Ultimately I'll probably stump up, as that is the only place to go for some files, but have to say this is leaving a nasty taste.

It is totally OPTIONAL, you dont have to have or need the paid membership to download anything. The only thing the paid membership gives you is faster downloads and allows you download more than 1 file at a time. Your not paying for the files at all. Its sort of like a donate button, donate some money, and you get a few perks.

You have to remember this is only a temporary situation.

The reason why you were getting that message is they exceeded their bandwidth allotment for the month. To curtail the monthly cost overruns they simply put a stop to downloaders who are not paid members.

As of just a few minutes ago I was able to download a file as a free member.

Keep in mind the problem may be gone today but may reappear later this month if their X-Plane package is still putting a hurting on their bandwidth.

This is what I get when trying to download;

Your Simultaneous Download Limit Exceeded

You have exceeded your limit of 2 simultaneous downloads on our free servers.

Haven't downloaded a file for over a month from "All nodes busy..."

Wonder if the guy from FS Pilot Shop sabotaged my account? :toilet_claw:

free members are only allowed to download 1 file at a time, just wait till ones finished before downloading the next one :wavey:

Well, with overnight attempts to d/l my [2] files, I did manage to get one d/l.... if it was a corrupt d/l we'll see later......

The other file is still d/l as I type this... @ 453KB/sec. .... this file had "paused" overnight and I had to "resume download".... we'll see if it is corrupt later as well .... :banghead:

These are just at 3.8 GB each.

Free members can download two files at a time. I've done it many times in the past. You appear to have missed the part where I wrote that I have not downloaded a file in the past 30 days? Yet, the message popped up when I attempted to download "one single, solitary, lonesome, individual" file.
