being a FS9 man, thought it was time to try out FSX, im a little confused though as to what is the standard version you guys mainly use, i can pick up a copy from Amazon for around £8, but i have FSX standard, FSX Gold, FSX Deluxe and FSX+Acceleration Expansion pack to chose from, whats the best way to go.
cheers ian

FsX Gold Ian, best way to go I'd say. Installs the whole thing including Acceleration all from one box, though you have input registration for FsX and acceleration.

Ive work'd out that its a choice between standard and deluxe, the Acceleration Expansion pack is added to either, i should do my homework better :icon_lol: but that begs the next question, is the expansion pack accually needed

PS Thanks Roger, you posted as i was writing this

Expansion pack gives you more flexibility if you want to venture into certain add ons. The environment can become very immersive. I'd say go with the full install. IMHO

Hi Ian,
If you're serious about FsX, go Acceleration right now. If you try to upgrade some time later you'll probably have to make a fresh install of FsX. No doubt about it go Gold and get the whole shebang and yes it's woth it for full functionality in some payware aircraft. Most Fs9 aircraft port-over well but you need to darken prop alphas or the props behind the clouds issue is annoying.

You've talk'd me into it guys, order placed for Gold, £15 with 3-4 days delivery, cant complain about that.
A little worried about performance issue's, ive been flying FS9 with the sliders to max for a few years now but i know my way around my own PC so i should figure it out

Itel(R) Core (TM)2 duo CPU
e7300-2.666GHz
2.00GB Ram
NVIDIA Geforce 8400 gs

A little weedy im guessing but enough to get by, no over-clocking

A little weedy but should run on relatively low sliders. Not sure about the 8600 but maybe someone here can chime up? You will want to make sure you have the latest drivers though!

It depends on what 8400GS card...pci or pci-express. If it is PCI you aren't going to be happy at all with the results.

Ian if money is an issue see if you can find an Nvidia 9800GT the price should be very very affordable and it will run FSX on at least medium to low-high settings

Looks like im running the former, PCI only, but im also using XP rather than Vista and from what little ive read, the Express was optimised for Vista,
but intrestingly, the card you recomended, i could pick up for around £15/$20, so even if things dont work out, i may give your idea a go.
thanks ian

Ian I build gamer units and networks and several older socket 775 units like yours ran that 9800GT runs FSX very well for the price.

Hey Dave thank you. I will take them if you don't mind. I rebuild old units for disadvantaged kids when I have the the parts and time. I will send you a message with my address Amigo.

Ian,

To follow up on txnetcop's comment, I'd run it first before I did anything else. Then tweak a bit if needed. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Ive been abit busy and away from home, but i finally got around to installing, and you know what, TeaSea's right, im pleasantly suprised, in fact, i cant belive how well its actually running on my system, i never liked the autogen in FS9, and i dont really care for it in FSX, so i can live without it, and the water effects are turned down to mimimum also, with that in mind, i'm getting a respectable 20-30 frames, even with some addon scenery's, ACG Marham and Twin Base's, flying some of Rob Richardson's classic British jets, and im having fun:jump:,
Im now looking at some of my FS9 scenery's and getting them to work in this sim :running:
tohught i'd post pics of my settings, only took a few minutes tweaking--
