Who's the Best?

The thread title is a little misleading, because while that is what I am trying to find out, it is not the question I pose here.

I have flown an evasive RM track with the Emil, and now am trying various chase planes to see if I can bring the beggar down.
The Plane Designs Spitfire has a wonderful gyro gunsight so would be perfect for the job.
Alas, the one I want is carrying Bombs.
I know there is a way to drop them, and can even remember there is a button on the throttle - but they stay stuck!
Can anyone advise: how to jettison the bombs on the PD Spitfire??

Hi,

I can't remember off-hand exactly how you do it, but it involves using the correct lever/switch in the VC. The details are in the manual.

When I get home I'll check.

Cheers,

Alastair

Thanks Alastair, I'm pretty sure it is not in the manual...but I hope I'm wrong!

Hi,

Checking the manual(s) didn't show this so I ended up firing up FS2004 and loading the Mk.XVI Spit ! The bomb release is actually on the Throttle, as is the Gyro Gunsight Range Control, which has also been missed off the cockpit key for some reason.

At least on my system the bombs do drop when the button is pressed. I was airborne at the time if this is significant.

On my system the supercharger doesn't automatically kick in for some reason, probably due to a conflict with some other DLL, so I'm limited to about 16,000ft. I only mention this as something on your system might be stopping the bombs from dropping.

Cheers,

Alastair

Thanks for that... I had imagined there might be a Master Arm switch hidden somewhere.
Nothing I do can release the bombs!
The centre drop tank goes OK, though.

Interestingly, while looking for errant switches, (did you know you can raise the seat with the appropriate lever?) I flew up to 30,000ft without a problem, then...CTD.

This model uses some "non-standard" coding, so may be getting interference from any of the gazillion other addons in the sim I suppose.

For Future Reference...

Previously, I installed to a temporary folder, and copied over the model I wanted.
This time, I took a deep breath... and let the installer (PDSpitfire16 v1.01.exe) go, and install to the FS9 folder.
Now the bomb release works fine.
A gauge aliased from another model? Who knows... it remains a drop-dead gorgeous model

WOW. I have to agree, that Spit is eye-wateringly beautiful. Love the details - hatches, etc. and gorgeous paintwork. Subtle riveting and weathering, so nicely done. Not to mention the tyre detailing. Nice screens too, all looks very 'natural'.

Absolutely

The RA Spit is, overall, in a class of is own, and has never left the active hangar.
But it has a Griffon in front!

The MK XVI not only has a Merlin, it is a Packard-built one which has the best sound of all.
And, the PD external model possibly shades the RAS.

One drawback: the PD FDE makes it essentially unflyable, I have subbed in the RAS airfile while I try to cobble something together.
It has been a WIP for many months.
