Why do I keep trying

Flight Sim Junkie
Went into FS2024 tonight to see how it's doing after the update and it messed up twice on me. First time I landed at Lukla and CTD. Then I had to go in and re-activate all my stuff, I don't know how many times more I can do this without loosing the rest of my hair. So, I went in re-activated everything and had to re-launch which I did. Then I was merely trying to select the cargo version of the C408 and the sim froze solid. I had to kill it in task manager so now I'll probably have to re-activate everything again. How does Asobo think this is enjoyable or fun? I'm sure they're having a good laugh over all these frustrations their customers are having. I mean.... awwe, never mind it isn't even worth it anymore with this thing. I wish they just gave me my refund so I wouldn't keep trying.

I bought it before it was released, and I have yet to install it. MSFS2020 runs very smoothly, and I can wait. I know they'll eventually turn it into a useable sim, so I'm just patiently waiting. I'm guessing I'll install it this coming summer . . . or fall . . . or next winter. Right now, I can do without the frustrations that many, like you, describe.
The main thing is that I have rejected purchasing any addons for either sim until I fully switch over to 2024. So, in a way, even though I bought a sim I'm not playing, it has saved me quite a bit of money. :D

I kinda feel like I'm missing out not upgrading to 2024 then I read all of the issues they are having. My 2020 is running perfectly & everything is set up just the way I want it. For me it's a sim not a game so I don't & wouldn't use all of the shiny nonsense on 2024 anyway plus after having used 2024 on my brothers system the only thing that stood out was the rough terrain (drainage ditches etc.), that was a good upgrade, the rest was pretty similar & I even think that the graphics set up on my sim looked more realistic. I really feel for everyone on 2024, it's not great that after outlaying hard earned cash they are having these buggy issues.

Sounds awfully similar to my experiences. The few successful flights I had, all with 2020 imports funnily enough, I honestly could not see that much of an improvement over 2024, but my favorite aircraft had no pilots, were impossible to find most of the times, I had to reset all my controls almost every time, and the aircraft that came with it, at least none that I tried, wouldn't move at all on the runway. I tried it for slightly over a week, and gave up in frustration. I deleted it, asked for a refund, was refused, asked again, and did get a refund, so I am a happy 2020 flyer for now. 2024 was the most frustrating thing I ever bought in my life, I'm still surprised that it seems to work fine for some people, with me it was just 50% frustration and 50% irritation. My advice, just keep asking for a refund, again and again

I feel about the same. MSFS 2020 runs like a charm to me, and I won't consider buying 2024 until later this year, once W10 support is finished and I get a new machine suitable for W11. Depending on what users keep reporting, I might even get W11 and keep using 2020.
My only concern is that MS might eventually ruin 2020 with an allegedly 'faulty' update, or reduce drastically server support for 2020, in order to force users move to 2024. Call it 'planned obsolescence'. Is this paranoid?

It turns out that 2024 reads the aircraft.cfg [FLTSIM] information differently to 2020. For example the "ui_createdby" entry is often used by livery artists to enter their own name, which was fine in 2020, but 2024 expects "ui_createdby" to have the model developer's name, e.g. "ui_createdby = Asobo Studios".
If there's any other name after "ui_createdby", 2024 will display that livery as a separate variant of the "ui_manufacturer" model rather than as a livery option of the same "ui_manufacturer" model.

Ditto - got my refund within a few minutes a few weeks back - my internet just couldn't make the thing run even thou I met the mid-range speed.

I really don't understand why people ask for refunds ?
You all know the current state of the sim, as bad as it is (it's no secret to anyone), is just temporary and it's just a matter of weeks/months until the various patches are released, right ?
If you ask for a refund now, what are you going to do later ? Buy it again ? It makes no sense.
MSFS2024 will get good at some point. If you're unhappy with it, you can either stop launching it or uninstall it until one or two Sim-Update patches are finally released. What's the point of asking for a refund and then spending the money again a few months later ?

For info, I have also both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, and I just don't use MSFS2024 anymore because of various reasons:
- terrible VR performance on my old hardware
- terrible VR usability because of the various UI bugs (which won't be solved before SU2, by the way)
- various bugs
- alpha/beta status of the various default planes which could really use some improvement mods...

As a result, I'm just keeping with MSFS2020 for now, and I keep watching how MSFS2024 evolves. I haven't even uninstalled it, as it doesn't even take much space on the drive, so what would be the point ? I'll just wait for the SUs to be released and re-check later. I don't need a refund, I know I'll eventually switch completely to that sim and uninstall MSFS2020 at some point anyways, so what would be the point of asking for a refund ?

Not sure why you don't understand - it's pretty simple really. I asked for & got a refund because it's a lot of money to invest in something I can't use and clearly has many faults and issues. No different to how any consumer would behave on any other product that doesn't work.

Obviously if money is no object (?) then fine sit on the thing and wait for it to work. To me I expect an expensive "non-essential purchase" to work first time. If in the future 2024 is still available and demonstrably works properly (particularly for those of us that don't have stella internet connections) then that's my decision at the time. In the meantime I'll put the cash towards my car insurance renewal.

As Jankees said it's also in part to let MS/ASOBO know that all is not well.

In any walk of business surely if a long term client asks for a refund on new product then that's a bad omen and needs to be taken heed.

Well ok, I understand the "message to MS/Asobo" thing, eventually, even though I'm sure the press/youtubers reviews are far more impacting.

But for the money, I'm not sure I can follow your logic. Maybe I'm just underestimating the situation here, but if somebody is in a situation where he has to spend his money carefully, then buying a sim as soon as it is released without checking the reviews, and hoping for a refund, might not be the best choice....

I'm not pleading poverty here and obviously all of this stuff is a luxury if one gets down to brass tacks. However...I ain't in the habit of shelling out hundreds of pounds on stuff that doesn't work as advertised.

Many folk, based on the vast amount of promotional material that had been released, the published minimum system/internet speed requirements and the positive reports from the Grand Canyon event would have pre-ordered or bought the thing on release date.

At that point the obvious systemic problems were not obvious.

I left it a month to avoid the initial rush before parting with my cash. Based on the fact that, notwithstanding the negative reports that were emerging, I still felt that the new sim offered great potential and I wanted to give it a try on my new PC rig. I certainly hadn't felt the need for a contingency plan such as "hoping for a refund."

Whilst others seem to be operating the new sim pretty well for me the fact it didn't work at all meant that I felt fully justified in asking for a refund and the fact that this was agreed immediately kind of signalled that MS/ASOBO were accepting of my position.
