Why doesn't the wind blow where I want?

I wanted to shoot some carrier landings with the MAAM Avenger, so I set the wind to 24 knots at 351 degrees, and when I return to flying the wind is coming from 049 degrees! The wind seems to completely ignore what I set for a bearing and come from random directions. Makes it hard to land on those teeny weeny carriers when it does that! I’ve seen this before in a previous installation of FS9, and I don’t know what caused it then either.

I'm sure you did but did you check the altitude for that wind and also the wind gust box? Often it will only affect the first few hundred feet unless otherwise specified. My apologies if this was an obvious check.

dunno if fs models this but do remember that wind direction vaires considerably at the surface from in the air. I was told as part of a sea survival course that forecasts are valid from 2000' up and below that you have to take it with a pinch of salt fs might model (long shot) the friction with the surface's affect on wind direction....

The above may be useless or utter rubbish, you never know.

You also might want to double check that you selected the wx station closest to your carrier....otherwise you may not get the desired results.
