So why does SOH have a Rotorhead forum?
There really is no place on any of the flight simming websites with a dedicated location for rotorcraft pilots and enthusiasts to gather, ask questions, share tips and hacks, and just be who we are... Rotorheads.
We hope this will become THE place for Rotorheads to gather and share their love of helicopters and other rotorcraft.
For up to date happenings with sim rotorcraft, I will always defer to HeliSimmer.com. Sergio has created a truly invaluable site to stay current on sim rotorcraft.
And, his "how to" tutorials are second to none. I will from time to time refer you to HeliSimmer.com for the latest and greatest.
But, as good as it is, there is not forum structure to allow you, us, the actual rotorcraft simmers to ask questions and discuss what's on our minds.
And now, we have the place, that gathering of rotorheads.
These threads will not be separated by which sim you use, because helo flying is... helo flying. And we should share and enjoy what is happening across the platforms. There are plusses and minuses for each platform, so none is "better" or "worse," just different and your preference to use.
Our forum is divided into sub-forums, each with it's own purpose. And all there for one reason, to share, learn, question, and guide each other in the wonderfully unique world of sim rotorcraft flying.
The Forum and sub forums are:
Rotorhead's General Discussion
This is our day to day place to toss about whatever's on ones mind. Things you've heard. Hardware you've tried. Whatever suits your fancy, keeping withing the framework of Rotorcraft.
Military Helicopters
Here you can discuss anything related to simming with military rotorcraft, different models and repaints, operations, missions, and the like. Also where your screenshots of militray sim flying would be posted.
Civilian Helicopters
Here you can discuss anything related to simming with civilian rotorcraft, different models and repaints, operations, missions, and the like. Also where your screenshots of civilian sim flying would be posted.
First Responder Helicopters
Here you can discuss anything related to simming with first responder rotorcraft, different models and repaints, operations, missions, and the like. Also where your screenshots of first responder sim flying would be posted. First responder operations include police, fire, SAR, EMS, and similar operations.
Events/Challenges
This is where we will announce, participate, and reminisce about flying events for sim rotorcraft.
The first will be HeliFest 2, starting in a few days on FlightSim.com. I will mirror the FS thread here, but if you do fly the event, you will respond on FlightSim.com's thread. With this you will see how we've been running these events.
Future shorter events, called "Rotor Runs" and the annual "HeliFest" will be run on our Rotorhead forum here at SOH.
Real World Rotorcraft Aviation
Here you can discuss anything related to real world rotorcraft. History, engineering, incidents, photo, or anything else you wish covering the whole real world of rotorcraft.
Rotors Q&A
Here is where you can ask and start discussions on anything relating to rotorcraft sim flying. Any "How do I...?," "Why is this...?," "Where do I find...?," "What are the FAA rules for...?," "When would I...," "Who is...?," ANYTHING you wish to ask goes here. Both the Q's and A's are open to all of us. Keep in mind that rotorcraft are different beasts from fixed wing aircraft. Sometimes the answers are not cut and dry.
Tutorials
Here will be posted various tutorials, cheat sheets, how to, DIY for rotorcraft simming.
Many of the topics for tutorials may come from Q&A topics raised by you, the Rotorheads.
If you have suggestions for future tutorials, please let me know via messaging (conversations) directly to me.
And now, let's all drop our rotor brakes, spool up our Nr, and lift into a hover. Show those fixed wing folks that we're not limited by a Vs!
